I cannot believe that you people have to /choose to live like this.
A totally foreign concept to the northern cheesehead.

Life seldom works like you have planned. Throw in a mean thug or one hyped up on chrystal meth and Things are really gonna go the hell in a handbasket.

Some good stuff on situatuional awareness here, but not enough on your mindset. A response/judjment needs to be as near to automatic as you can get it.
No practice here......the best you can do is be intimately knowlegeable about your pierce and the moves that you may need to make to survive. Getting old don't help ......cept may be the judgment bit.....fight or flee....that flee option may go out the window as you get old....thugs depend on that, so they'll most offen pick an old fart or woman. Me? I'll take the flee option....given a decent opportunity.

*I do not want to shoot anybody*.....but given no choice I am certain I will......not to kill, given the opportunity.....but the perp won't feel up to chasing me when I get around to the flee part.

Sometimes those that carry get themselves into more situations than those that don't carry. Especially road rage type of situations.......

If you catch someone breaking into your car, things get out of hand and you shoot the suspect? You now have problems that will chase you for years.......

Trouble can find you no matter where you live. I hope you don't find that out the hard way.

1. You have a CCW and your firearm with you, and are making your Slurpee at the local gas station convenience store. A thug comes in, points a gun at the cashier and demands money. The cashier opens the drawer... what do you do next?

2. You are in a restaurant with your family and you have a CCW and your firearm with you. A guy comes in with an AR-15 and starts shooting up the place. He starts going table by table putting bullets into everyone with no rhyme or reason. What do you do next?

Two very different situations - two very different ways to deal with it. In the first situation, the robber just wants the cash and get out of there. Drawing your gun can lead to an escalation of the situation more than anything. That is something you don't want to do. In the second situation, it is more clear that the perp is ready and willing to do harm and kill. At that point, drawing a gun may be your only line of defense and a means of diffusing the situation.

The two scenarios I outline above are easily distinguishable - but in real life, the lines between those types of situations are blurred. Having a firearm will not help you make the right choice - but it does give you more options...

I am assuming that you have never been active with a rifle or pistol.
A good start would be not getting a firearm because of anger.

What I suggest is go into gun ownership with the right attitude.

Purchase a Ruger 10/22 or similiar 22 cal. long rifle.
They run around $250.

Go online and find the closest "Appleseed" clinic.
Register and go to the two day event.

When you complete the course of History and shooting, you will have calm sense
of gun ownership.
You will be confident in your shooting and firearm safety.

At this point you will have a better sense of why you want or not want to carry around a concealed weapon.

I cannot believe that some of you don't get this. Once you have been a victim, you will never be lackadaisical about your own, or your families safety again .
Bad things happen to good people in nice areas every day.

A very good example is the crazy that went into the Movie Theater in Denver, and wiped out 12 lives and injured many others..I'll bet they never believed it could or would happen to them that way..

First you want to make a list of which ones you want to shoot to kill, then maim and finally only wound. Prioritize members in each list. I'm not sure you want to give them actual names but be descriptive so you know which one you will be shooting.

You may want to start of slow and just go for wounding first. Will give you some practice and allow you to be a little more in the moment for the kills.

Then go get a gun and have at it. Don't be discouraged if you are only wounding folks in the maim category. Give yourself some time.

I have a CCW. My worst fear is having to use it. I will go to jail, if however briefly. I will be sued (have assets). I don't relish the idea of taking a human life. I will, however, if myself or those I love are threatened, but that will start a whole lot of bad things.

Ok everyone, I've come down off of my soapbox. Enough said. After reading through all the comments, it sounds like a bad stupid idea. I'm not out on any vigilante crusade, just wanted to have a small gun for protection. I don't live in, nor do I visit any high crime /dangerous areas. It just seems that the lowlife are getting bolder in areas that seemed safe. Now where's that issue of Guns & Ammo.
