Ru Roh!

I think I just lost my purpose in life... Started this about twenty years ago. Moved it to a second home - now it's upstairs - and I have no idea how to move it. Or what to do with it? Do I cash it in? Can I avoid a fee? How can I dump it without breaking it? And what do I do at the end of the day. A kinda existential question, a first world problem I know, but a fun problem to have!

Yes, I know this is a public forum. So if anyone wants to come to So Cal and rip me off, you're in for a lot of work!

Why don't you start a poll to guess how much $$ is in that jug ? I'll bet there is close to $1000.

I would bet it contains considerably more than that.

I once stored quarters from a laundry room in a building that I managed. Looking at that bottle, I would guess about $ 7.000.- or more. Could pay for starting a new P-car project.

Looking at the picture again I see its all kinds of change not only quarters. So I lower my bid to 2.000.-

Most banks will take it and count, put into your account for free. Best to go ask before toting that think around as maybe only one branch in the area has a coin counter. I brought in a big bucket of coins they transfered it to bank bags and gave me the bucket back. They counted it later that day and I seen the deposit show up that evening electronically. 500 bucks. at least 50 pounds worth.

My local bank branch doesn't charge a fee if you deposit the change into your account there. Perhaps yours does the same? All they have to do is dump it into a machine. Shouldn't be a problem, other than moving it.

There may be some valuable silver coins in there. You should sort each by hand just to make sure you don't miss anything.

I have a friend who has a bottle about that big, but really thick walled, and its filled with liquid mercury from all the thermostats he changed out as an HVAC guy for 25 years.

My credit union has a change counting machine available for free.
It prints out the counted amount and you can get cash or deposit.
I would empty that thing and check for silver though - as suggested already.

I would guess 4 grand in there. Please let us know if and when you have it counted.

You might be able to rock it back and get a two wheel dolly like the UPS driver uses under it. It is gonna be a bear to move.

Once empty that container would make a great carboy for brewing your own beer . . .

Same here....a few times I have cashed in over $1000....hard to determine the ratio of quarters/crap (and pennies suck ) in that big jug though, but I'm guessing over $5K.

For reference, a tennis ball (3) container with only quarters is around $150....

I sure wouldn't want to be the guy in line behind you at the machine.

They have those coin counting stations at some grocery stores. I think they charge 10-15%. But, if you get gift certificates, then they don't charge the fee. I think the last time I went to one years ago, I was able to get an Amazon gift cert for the full amount. But in my case it was only $150-250 or something like that.
