Neil Armstorng had a stash of moonstuff in his closet!
Cool stuff, too, not like the pencils or paper clips that usually get pilfered from work!
(Course, if you were the first man to walk on the moon, this would probably not be considered pilferage!) The Armstrong Purse: Flown Apollo 11 Lunar Artifacts | AirSpace ![]() |

So all this time he was stealing government property.
For shame...

One hopes that they at least had the decency to rake over their footsteps on the Moon so as to preserve the environment...It took Billions of years to get that nice smooth surface, and as usual man shytes on every thing he touches...how despicable.

Worthwhile read-
First Man by James Hansen As for what I've only read, he was a 'straight shooter' throughout. Extremely private, but who knows, perhaps it was just a little thing he could occasionally fondle and of a memory. As for the others of that era, it was common but against regulations, to bring a small stash and return with them as profitable or gifts. Early on, the first group of astronauts were not compensated well and life insurance was a big problem. Unscrupulous but I suppose one could bank on having a few genuine artifacts flown for later sale. Pre Apollo missions, there might have been a small stash of American flags that were the only authorized items in orbit.

I read the article, the slant is on how great it is that this stash has been found, and there is absolutely no mention of him pilfering anything.
That was just me, and I guess I must have a guilty conscience, because I probably have taken a pencil or a paper clip from work before. All in all, pretty cool stash of stuff - including the camera that was in the window taking all those images of the moon we saw that fateful day! |

I would have thought he would keep something more interesting. A bit of moon-rock for instance.

Part of our space exploration history - very cool. That was very nice of Mrs. Armstrong to contact the museum!

I forget the book but read Buzz Aldrin's story.
In summary- Armstrong and Aldrin were 'polar' opposites ![]()

Oh hell yeah... especially when you're doing this with only a very slight chance of getting back home alive. Fair compensation in my view.

How timely for me.
I watched this last week. NOVA | First Man on the Moon Neil Armstrong was the real deal: a true American hero. He made it back home because he flew his craft and was level headed when faced with death. He demonstrated this quality several times in his career. |

Stolen and missing moon rocks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Because the government spent billions of dollars to go up there and get them and at no point in time have ever sold any of them. They therefore remain the property of the US government and anyone caught in possession of a real moon rock must have stolen it or be in receipt of stolen goods. More than likely though they are counterfeit but the point is well made if they are counterfeit that is a serious crime if they are genuine it's an even more serious crime.

Meh, who cares what he kept.
He earned it. I read somewhere once that the guys who went to the moon had some difficulties afterwards. As in, after accomplishing probably the greatest feat of mankind to date what the hell do I do now?

I echo this sentiment. Now if he has a Lunar Module (LM) or Lunar Rover stashed away in his garage, maybe there would be cause for concern...

Except for the camera it looks like a bunch of random junk. I doubt he ever took that stuff out - probably forgot he had it! Sorry to be a downer but I can't find this terribly exciting news ...

Cool stuff but what strikes me immediately is how most of it is custom made high quality gear.
It must have been great days indeed.
