Last MB I owned was a 1984 190 2.3. Good car then but never a hotrod .
I have a good friend with a newer 350MB. Just recently he broke the inside door handle(chromed plastic) and discovered you need to buy a $1000 door panel to get one ouch!

Randy MB stands for Mercedes Benz. You won,t find a new door panel for a newer Mercedes for much less than a grand here or there. My friend found a used one on ebay for about $300 and drilled out some rivets and reused the door handle on his.
Perhaps you would have benefitted from common core. Shouldn,t it be AD (for advertisement) not ADD

Read my post again:

I'm saying that he could've bought a WHOLE CAR for $1K instead of buying an MB door panel for $1k- therefore the MB is overpriced, unnecessary, wasteful, indulgent, any word will fit that implies excessive.

Perhaps you'd benefit from going to school, common core or not.

rjp

PS STANG is "Mustang" FYI, and learn how to use punctuation- commas and apostrophes do NOT interchange.

My neighbor had an MB. Took it in for service. Charged him $300 just to hook it up for diagnosis. Car is now gone. I understand we pay outrageous prices for our 911's. But there is no option. what else comes close? But an MB is just a car to me.

Pretty myopic view IMHO.

At one time there was no other option. Maybe that has changed. Bought my first 911 at age 29 in 1980. At that time there was no option. Is there one today?

I can understand your perspective. In 1980, no, there was absolutely not another option. Even today, I think Porsche are unique cars. There are very few mid-engine, and zero rear engine cars that the average person can hope to afford. But I think other manufacturers offer very solid options if one looks at if from a purely 'how much fun for my $' perspective.

The modern Nissan Z car is very capable, the Ford Mustang (especially the latest with independent rear suspension), the BMW M3 series, the latest Corvette....yes, I think there is modern competition for Porsche.

I DO understand your passion, I've owned 3 P-cars, and I've already got my next one picked out. I'm going to wait for the latest generation of Cayman to depreciate a bit more and pick up an S model at some point.

For those looking for an automatic, the tiptronic works quit well and is bullet proof off track. One that I bought from my sister allowed me to get back behind the wheel quickly after a traumatic hip replacement. One of my friends who lost a leg feels like he is a kid again now that he has an Aprilia with an automatic. Think I'll keep the tip around so another trauma to a limb wont keep me out of a Porsche.0

It's really hard to beat the Porsche experience for the money. Other cars can be fun, other cars can be faster, but I'm yet to find anything that replicates the total experience.

Whenever you end up in the market for a Cayman let me know, there are already quite a few 981 Caymans for sale at the wholesale auctions.

Porsche/Mustang all good fun

I bought a Grabber blue Boss and it came with a free track day at Miller Motorsports. Ford provided the cars and paid for a track day for anybody that bought a Boss 302. The engine in these cars is amazing, (redlines at 7900).
I've had mine out with my porsche buddies and it keeps up just fine. We even ended up in some snow on the return trip
.

Here's a couple of the cars that showed up for this drive:
