Projection, next winter will be just as good, or bad, depending on thy point of view.

As I type this it's -44C here. Just got home from looking after my grandson for the evening. My truck struggled to start.

It is 77F here at 10:42 pm. A week ago it was in the 60s.

I also feel bad for you guys back there. I guess one of the only things you can be thankful for is that you weren't an Indian trying to survive conditions like that a few hundred years ago.

That thought crossed my mind in late November. I was cutting and splitting wood at the cottage. Two days worth of work to net enough fuel for six or seven subzero weekends if we are lucky. And I was using a chainsaw and an hydraulic splitter. There must have been weeks worth of nonstop cutting and splitting in the homesteader days.

I spent much of this week in OH and MI. Suddenly winters in KS don't seem so bad.

Pretty funny. ;)

I saw a weather map of the world looking straight down at the North Pole. The jet stream is waving up and down around the whole world, making warm and cold zones in a very regular zig zag pattern. Many of us just seem to be caught in the cold zones. The cold zone looks like a blobby starfish, with icy arms reaching down around the world...

I don't think we have had weather conditions like this since the early 1600s.

I know, right. It's not bad around here from March thru Dec, but Jan, and Feb suck every year.

Are there comparative maps to prior years? It seems that if that starfish is expanding the cold zones are expanding. I wonder if something similar is happening at the south pole.

pete3799 02-22-2015 10:21 AM

33 degrees.......just made it.
Won't last long........supposed to be back down to 0 or below tonight. -23 tomorrow night.

Was -10F this am here, (Mpls.), but it's warmed up to about zero now and it doesn't feel bad. You don't stay outside for long. I was in NY last week and they were crying like little girls on the news about 10 above zero. When it hits 10 above here, outdoor activity picks up a lot.

It hit 27F here today and I was outside cleaning up some more snow....in a short sleeved sweat shirt!!

devodave 02-22-2015 06:15 PM

Tee shirt weather

It's amazing how after being under debilitating cold temperatures for months on end, 30 degrees F feels like a heat wave. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/vuur.gif

devodave 02-22-2015 06:19 PM

But we are back to 7 below zero tonight in Western New York. Not sure how much snow we have had so far this year, but last year was around 360" (that's 30 feet)! I doubt we will hit that amount this year, but it sure seems that all I do is remove snow.

afterburn 549 02-22-2015 09:22 PM

Its HOT here in the Adex got to 29 deg F on the trails today. Was a nice ride.
