Fed ex now uses the US post office for delivery

Wonder how well this will go over. I have been tracking a purchase I made on Ebay. It shows that Fed Ex has dropped it off with the local post office.
Looks like Fed Ex is moving things long distance within their own system, but using the US Postal Service to do the final delivery.
Some reading online tells me that once the post office has it, there is no way to further track it , and no guaranteed delivery date.
They call it Fed Ex Smart Post. I believe it is designed to be an economical shipping option for online retailers.
I can already for see the blame game, and runaround when packages get damaged, or go missing.
Any experiences yet?

Yeah. I bought something and it came that way. Makes sense to a degree. For them.
I read long ago about some town in AK where UPS, FED EX and USPS all team up and deliver on rotation. Wild.

it's an option, you can order traditional FedEx, or SmartPost which means they ship it to post office near your house and mailman delivers it. Only for small packages, and it's another day typically

Lots of my non Pelican/Amazon delivery start with Fedex and the final delivery is done by USPS to the UPS store in Ogdensburg...

Spread the money/blame alright

That's odd to hear. FedEx used to be an electric account of mine and the GM of the plant here in Sacramento talked about how FedEx routed a ton of USPS mail. I guess it makes sense that they would use each other to help with logistics.

This has been going on for years. Woot has shipped this way. Woot is now owned by Amazon.

it's all gonna be like 12OZ and smaller, they don't do anything large on that deal.

I don't trust it but it's worked the 3x I've messed with it. If it's a big dollar item, I ship it FedEx ground...Not worth the piddly savings.

I ship FedEx to avoid USPS. This doesn't help.

I have been getting this version of service with Amazon Prime. I hate it. Its about 50% that I get a delivery on the expected date. The times its late I see on the tracking "Attempted Delivery", which is total BS. I live in the city and there is no reason for a failed delivery "attempt". I really think the USPS guy just doesnt feel like working since most of the time the time stamp on the tracking is well before quitin time.
