Bond
New movie coming in November, ticks all the right boxes, set in Austria, mountains,
snow, Aston Martin, guns, girls, good guys and baddies. Oh, and probably saves the world. |

^^ What's with the plastic wrappers - is there any value to those old paperbacks?

I have read them all several times over as a kid, they are all great reads. Lots of neat cars. Blower Bentley, Aston Martins, on and on. |

I really did not care that much for the last Bond Flick, Skyfall. He had three main tasks and he failed at all three.

When I first looked at the picture and saw two copies of "You Only Live Twice" I thought, "Ha, ha! How clever!" Then I saw you have two of "Mooraker" too.
![]() Paperbacks can get spendy. A couple of years ago I wanted a copy of "Street Rod" by Henry Gregor Felsen. I read it as a kid. (It was supposed to be a cautionary tale for teenage gearheads but I saw it as a roadmap for my future.) Anyhow, ratty copies were going for $30-$40!!

Anyway, lots of varied opinions on Bond and the books and the movies. Mostly the movies based on the Fleming books, I think, were the best. |

I like Daniel Craig as Bond, I just did not care for the plot of Bond failing at his missions. He is supposed to save the world with just his wits and talents while beating the super villain.
I think is was Quantum of Solace where he is led into an elevator while handcuffed guarded by 5 armed men and he whips them all, gets out of the elevator and escapes. That is what Bond does.

I was disappointed in Javier Bardem. He could have been a spectacular villain, instead of whatever that blonde haired feminine crap that turned out to be.

I'm going to list my favorite three movies, and invite others to do the same. Pretty standard, I think 1. Thunderball, 2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3. Goldfinger and best Books Casino Royale, O.H.M.S.S. and Dr. No. Darn , I forgot From Russia with Love. So in revision, From Russia with Love as best book and best movie! Connery as best Bond, |

I think Daniel Craig has taken the role back to be more like it was when SC was Bond. It's ore raw, relies less on gadgets and he's more likely to beyotch slap anyone that gets in his way. Skyfall, was good, but not terribly Bond-like. Casino Royale Was the best of his 3. Quantum of Solace was OK, but not great, I think part of the problem with that one was that the main Bond girl was uninspiring.

Diamonds are Forever is one of my all time favs. I don't think I can pick a top 3. Goldfinger is iconic. You Only Live Twice is also a favorite and very classic Bond. From Russia with Love is excellent. It's hard to believe that the Bond girl in it was an Italian that had her voice dubbed over for the whole movie. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is excellent, and Im surprised that it's not more popular. I also really like Golden Eye and Die Another Day For Your Eyes Only is a good one. Casino Royale was excellent and to me, got back the the roots of what the Bonds were when Sean C was bond.

the bond girl in "Skyfall" was IMO the most sexy ever. My goodness.
And I really liked Javier Bardem and Daniel Craig. Just the gay undertones are a little bit :/ and don't really belong in a Bond character. |

Skyfall was the first Craig film that really made me go 'wow'. I saw it in a big theatre, huge screen, all digital sound etc. It was captivating. It was a long film but it needed every minute of it.
Skyfall, GoldenEye, and The Living Daylights are my favourite of the bond films. All for slightly different reasons. I think it is sad that Timothy Dalton isn't respected more for his bond films- I think if he would have started off with the director and script of GoldenEye instead of when he did with Living Daylights, he would have done 5-6 films in the 1990's that would have been huge. The guy is an amazing actor. But he was paired with not so great scripts and directing, I think. Brosnan only had two great scripts- GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies. unfortunately for him, his films become more and more campy and targeted at a less-serious audience after the first. GoldenEye to me is still the #1 film that encompasses what 007 is supposed to be doing in a film. And Craig is just different and serious, and that shouldn't always be considered better. Casino Royale was a long, boring mess of words with just enough action to make us all think it was amazing, and Quantum of Solace was a beautifully shot stream of nothingness that had no real reason. Skyfall finally hit home with what essentially was a reboot of characters. I just hope this net one has a compelling script. Seeing all these youtube videos where people have caught them filming car chases with all these concept cars worries me- I hate that crap, the bull***** car chases with some fiberglass fakery cars that aren't real- that is what Die Another Day was. The best Bond chase scenes are the ones that are unconventional and involve real, less-than-super vehicles. i.e. the motorcycles in Skyfall, the tank in GoldenEye, the motorcycle/plane stunt in GoldenEye... etc. Nothing exotic there, no product placement there.

You forgot David Niven... the first Bond... before Connery. With Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress.

I always liked Living Daylights. I grew up with the goofy Roger Moore stuff so it was cool to see a more serious Bond.
I just re-watched View to a Kill the other day. That movie is laughable. Eva Green - Casino Royale. Damn. Never got around to reading the books.. Whats a good start?
