Would Steve McQueen drive a current Porsche?

A thread on Rennlist go me thinking this. Not an 85 year old McQueen but the one we knew from the 60s and 70s. Porsche is certainly cashing in on his likeness if you happen to walk into a dealership lately ($80 McQueen T shirts).

I see him driving a Lotus or similar...

Yes, I believe he would drive a Porsche. Think of Patrick Dempsey.

Hmm.. a Porsche race car on the track like Dempsey - sure. What about the street cars?

Yup. The latest GT version of the 911. I think HD is correct on the Cayman R, too.

Think about the marketing potential.

I can picture the Jesus of cool in an RS 4 or a CGT.

For some reason I don't see him driving a 918

He'd have a 'modern' one but I bet it wouldn't be his favourite.

His favourite would be some vintage example - like a '69 911s for example.

He would drive 911 GT3RS and a whole slew of other cool cars too. Maybe the new GT40. And a whole slew of bikes, KTMs perhaps?

Sure.

A Cayman R or GT4, A 911 GT3 RS, or even go high tech and the 918 would be the obvious choice.

No Porsche.
Perhaps a GT 40.
An American exotic.

One of Steve's favorite things to do in his later years was to hop into his 40? Ford and drive it from his Broadbeach home up to Trancas and park overlooking the Pacific and "kick back." He enjoyed his pickup truck as well. I think there would definitely be a place for a Porsche, but I'm not so sure the modern one would be his first choice.

I'd imagine he'd be in an American Muscle car or possibly an Aston Martin. What about a Lotus?

Mclaren F1 would have been his kind of car. But he was a product of his times.

I think he'd have a drivers car... Maybe a GT3 or a Caymen R. If not a Porsche, I could see him in a new Mustang with the V8 and IRS. In my McQueen fantasy world, he would appreciate the changes in the new model and that it was a legitimate everyman's car. Maybe a Shelby GT350 or something like that.

Boxster Spyder, it's probably the closest that Porsche has gotten to making a modern 550.

He was certainly a man of his time and probably could not exist as such today. Today's leading men in Hollywood are much more feminized and thus driving something exotic (manly) would be seen as vulgar by the tastemakers in Hollywood. He'd be 85 today and I'd like to think he'd drive a Carrera S or maybe a GTS.
