Question Need a new printer, suggestions?

My Canon MP 530 died. Tried all the internet tricks on resetting it, its dead.

I need a printer that can do color/BW, fax, scan, copy, etc. It also has to be able to feed multiple sheets for all of the above. I think I can get one that meets my needs for around $100 or less. BUT the ink costs are what kill you. With my old printer I'll bet I've spent 5X the cost of the printer on ink. Any suggestions?

Home personal use only. Not opposed to buying reconditioned ink cartridges, refilling the old ones is too much hassle with all the adjustment crap to make them work.

Not a big deal here, but any thoughts would be nice.

I've had good luck with Brother multi function inkjets in the $100 or so price range over the last 4-5 years. Ink about $25 a cartridge. At that price if it dies I'll just buy a new one.

When I dumped my Epson, I donated my spare cartridges to my kids school. Don't know if that's an option for you. Local Charity taking donations maybe?

I have two of the "all in one" machines, one a Brother and one a Samsung. Both are pretty good, no complaints. Both are laser and were under $200.

I have had one of most of them and like my Epson the best for color prints. For about half the print money and less quality the HP is pretty good. One friend has an Epson for himself and a HP for the kids. It's just cheaper to run.

ink jets are the razer and the hadel story.

spend 300 and go toner based. it will last 5 X longer and cost a 10th of the cost to run
look at HP, Muratec, Konica Minolta or Canon.
pm me if you need more info

Last time I needed a printer, I went to Costco, looked at the least expensive, most available ink cartridges, and bought the printer that used them.

Happy so far....

Look at a Brother laser. Great quality, and long lasting. We've "field tested" them in our tax/accounting practice for some years now, and they hold up well to repeated high volume print jobs. Toner costs are relatively low with high capacity cartridges, considering the volume that we produce.

I bought a Canon based on the fact that they had the cheapest ink. It ain't the printer it's the ink that is expensive. HP can blow me.

Brother All In One type - print, scan, copy. Ink tanks run about $10 shipped for 4 black and 2 each of the 3 color cartridges (generic brands.) Ours at home and the 2 we bought the kids for use away in college have saved us hundreds in ink cartridges over other brands.

There's a lot of talk about Brother printers. Which one? Are they 'air' printers? Thanks!

We've bought 2 of the MFC 465 printers. Seems the MFC 475 is the replacement - and it offers wireless connectivity. It's on sale right now at Best Buy - for $59.99 and scores 4.5 out of 5.0 on ratings (1708 reviews)

Brother MFCJ475DW Wireless Inkjet AllinOne Printer Black MFC-J475DW - Best Buy

Edit - no specific affiliation, but we have purchased ink cartridges from MPC-Direct. As mentioned above - typically it's $10 or so (keep eyes open for sales!) for 4 black and 2 each of the 3 color ink tanks, made in China (of course) but have never had any issues.

I buy Brother MFC lasers. Operating cost is low compared to inkjet. Sturdy, no gimmicks. Kind of like HP used to be.
