Best electric shaver 2014

I only found some old threads on this subject and think technology is probably moving fairly quick in this area.

After several years of just trimming, I am done with full beard and will be clean shaven - or close enough - daily.

I am looking for a good electric shaver that does not irritate my skin and gives a reasonable shave. It needs to be cordless, so I can also use it on travel for a few days. I am okay cleaning things up with a wet shave once or twice a week, but really would like an easy maintenance machine for the other days. I have medium facial hair growth, so it doesn't have to be a shaver that can handle a bear!

What do you guys use and recommend?

Thanks!

G

I'll be watching this thread as my Remington is at least 20yrs old if not more.

My Norelco is also 20+ and the beard has changed over the last few years. Need to go tool shoppin'.

Looks like the Braun 7 series gets highest grades here. The Panasonic also scores in the top 5. It may be the best shaver actually but got notched down due to price?

I like Braun - have their ultrasonic tooth brushes for the entire famly and they have run for probably 10 years now - flawless.

I decided on the Panasonic ES-LA93-K Arc 4. The Arc 5 probably will be overkill for my beard. I'll keep you posted.

I've always used Brauns. Reliable and mid priced.

What swayed me towards the panasonic was the bad reviews for Braun service in the US on Amazon and the video I posted - the panasonic sure cut through the guy's beard like there is no tomorrow, while the brown required a few back and forth motions. Exactly what I try to avoid ... The reason may be the multiple arcs but also the 40% higher cycles per minute (the panasonic runs at 14k, while the braun runs at 10k).

Best would be to order both, so I can tell you the results.

I use a Braun 7 when I don't have access to my preferred setup (Art of Shaving assortment with 5-blade manual razor). It's great. I like it so much I bought a Braun 1 series to keep in my desk drawer for emergencies. Not nearly as comfy as the 7, but okay in a pinch. I utterly despise facial hair so I want good stuff that works reliably.

One year update with the Panasonic. I use it practically every weekday and have progressed to using it IN MY CAR! No worries, I fire it up on the red lights when sitting there for a minute. It takes 2-3 minutes for a clean shave and can handle my beard very well. People at work ask me if I had a rought night if I skip the shave - I use it that often ...

It cleans up with two passes easy. Around the neck I suffer from old geezer neck that needs to be stretched with one hand to ensure a close shave, otherwise you have half-blind old geezer neck hair left. Very unsightly.

I had imagined I'll need a close wet shave to clean up every few days but not necessary. My skin was a bit irritated for the first weeks and I used an aftershave but now it takes it dry, no issue. I don't like aftershaves - too stinky.

I have used the shaver wet and it is very nice. If I was a morning shower guy, I'd use it there. But I take my showers usually during the day or at night after exercise.

One thing I did was buy the cleaning station. That's a total waste of money and space. It is cheaply made, needs expensive refills and makes a ton of noise for 2h doing its thing. Some liquid soap, a good rinse with the razor going and the same thing is achieved in 30s plus a couple hours air dry.

Last tip is to buy a new foil blade at about 6 months. I am tight, so I waited a year. The difference old to new was phenomenal. I did not realize how much it had degraded over a year.
