The 997 isn't half bad either.

Great thread! I particularly appreciate the 997 / 991 comparisons.

I enjoyed a 993 for six years, but I think I'd prefer a bit more refinement, if I got another 911.

Damn, man! Gorgeous car!! Looks SO similar to my 2009 C4S, which is also black and has the same wheels as yours. Congrats on an amazing car!

Before everyone asks, I paid in the low 50's so I cant say I got a screaming deal but I definitely got a screaming car.

Another one with 6-speed, sport seats, chrono, under 50K miles for under $40K. Are 991's depreciating like this? I haven't looked.

@Craig, Thats a sweet deal. I've seen a few 997.1 in the low 40's whereas the 997.2 seem to be hovering in the low 50's. @Scott thank you for the compliment.

That car is overpriced by a lot, maybe $8k at least.

991s are definitely depreciating now, a higher mileage 2012 could easily be $50k or less.

Doesnt everything depreciate most aggressively the first 5 years? The key is where does it flat-line or at least taper off? Thats whats cool about the Porsche 911. They all initially depreciate but unlike most cars they eventually flatten out and begin to come up in value again. Some variants takes longer than others, but I suspect even the 996 will be sought after and appreciate given enough time. Not too long ago people dismissed the 964, yet its actually aged quite gracefully and nice examples can fetch a premium. The 991 is a beautiful machine and I'd have no problem owning one.

I've got a hankering for an early 991 S w some miles on it and a few track oriented mods. Just the usual 911 stuff, rims/tires, mild suspension stuff, exhaust, seats, etc. Could be *****in' Say what you will but that PDK shifts faster than lightning and is very strong.

Initially was a little skeptical about the PDK and wanted a manual, but after driving it for a while its pretty amazing and I wouldnt go back. It reminds me of the full manual valve body trans I ran in my old Mopar pro street cars with a high stall converter. You have to put it in manual sport mode though, than it shifts like a hammer! I find that I always have it in sport manual, not sure if thats bad for it or not but it sure is fun.

This has been listed for a while now: 997.2 S manual coupe... If anyone's interested, I have a Carfax. No affiliation to the seller, I was just browsing and was considering this as it was below $50K.

It's not an all wheel drive, is it? I'd love to have something like that for my DD but is has to be 4WD this far north.

Pretty sure it was a regular, (RWD), car. I didn't even walk across the street to look at it, going by his description.

No, that is where I sold my base 2005 Carerra, 78k miles and 6-speed. A 2006 "S" (depending on miles) should be $32-$35k.

Yeah - I think Denis missed the "S" because I said "base" in the same sentence. I did mean S but assuming no fancy options such as chrono on top.

As elaborated by others earlier, the 2006 may not be terribly desirable in terms of the IS bearing situation it presents....

Thanks!

The new big bearing is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. Jake said as much in a thread over on the "other" board. I had a 996 and worried. Once I knew my 997 was the new big bearing, it never crossed my mind.

And FWIW, if you read the other board, it seems there are as many folks with 997.2 cars having bore scoring as 997.1 owners with IMS issues.
