the book of mormon. my sister was right!

i went to see the show yesterday and have to say that is one of the funniest things i've seen in a long time.
my sister had told me last year, if i had to drag myself over broken glass and hot coals, 'go see this show.'
best eighty dollars i have spent this year, i laughed myself silly. if you have a chance to see this, be sure to go!

what i found really funny was that the only advertising in the playbill were full page ads from the church itself! "you've seen the show... now read the book."
as i was leaving the theater i was approached by a genuine mormon who asked me if i would like a copy of the book, seriously. i guess they figure that any recognition at all is an opportunity.

We just caught the show last night. It was even better than I expected (and I had some high expectations) Anybody that appreciates Parker & Stone's previous stuff (South Park anyone?) will love it. Coupling them with the guy behind the music in Frozen was a stroke of genius.

I've not seen the show. From what I hear, the Mormon Church was at first pretty offended by the show, then came to realize that its creators (Matt Stone and Trey Parker of South Park fame) weren't trying to be genuinely mean. Instead, they seem to be saying: "I don't understand your religion, but it seems to produce the nicest people."

The South Park episode where they totally rip on the beginning of the Mormon church, in the end they basically say, all religion origin stories are stupid. And then they go on to say how nice are the Mormon people.
