Porsche LMP1 2015

My company won our first major project for Porsche Motorsport and I have been managing it since August. I've been so focused on the task at hand, that I never thought of looking up their new car even as we were delivering parts for the roll out and tests. I think it's the tree/forest type thing. Anyway, lately I really needed some reminder of why all of this was relevant (as relevant as motorsport ever will be anyway). So it was good to be able to make out the bits I made personally on their new car, and to be reminded that, as I'm not yet working at Porsche, this is the next closest thing to realising my dream at this time.

2015 should be an interesting season. I think the Nissan car is very interesting, if nothing else. Hopefully the Silverstone race will not be so cold this year, and hopefully we can go back to Le Mans this summer.

So that's my rant over. I do feel a little bit better about having to work this weekend, again. Thanks for listening.

I fully believe that racing improves the breed.....

I just can't wait for a current F1 power plant to trickle down to daily drivers!

Excellent, Won

Congratulations, you should feel very proud of contributing to the Porsche LMP effort, especially so early in your career.

Perfectly normal to question why after you have worked through the most intensive time of the year.

If you don't have this feeling you haven't been pushing hard enough

Have you got into composites and what parts have you done?

Pretty much everything you can (and can't) see in this shot from last year's car, plus bits and bobs (some exterior).

Hi Captain, yes started in composites while I was finishing at Brookes. Last winter's stress generator was a complete RBD package for an F1 team. In comparison, Porsche Motorsport seemed much better organised as a team, until recently. I get to spend a lot of hands-on time, which has been a really good learning process, but at the same time I can totally understand how it can become just a job to the production staff after a while. Planning my next move now... We spent the NYE in Cologne and really liked the city

Koln is a great city, never seen so many good looking girls in one place

I've spent a few days at the Toyota wind tunnel, think you will enjoy working at there.

A RBD (rear brake duct) is a nasty area on an F1 car, aero ducts inside ducts, if you survived doing those then I think you should be ok.

I think you have chosen wisely to get into composites, much harder to design and make than machined parts.

If only the LMP cars didn't have such a close exterior resemblance to each other, it would be easier to get excited about them.

Not to hijack this thread, but last week I stopped by Sebring and one of the Audi LMP cars were practicing. They had a compound setup like you wouldn't believe. There was a tent (more like a temporary building) about the size of my house, two Audi rigs, two Michelin rigs, several RV's, etc., etc., etc. all for one car that will never race at this track. And it was fast, somewhere around seven seconds quicker than last years pole winner's speed in a Corvette DP. They brought in all nine drivers. Read about it here: Audi encouraged by Sebring test | WEC news | Motorsport.com

The test sessions were closed to the public but I was able to shoot a couple of pics on the outside of the track before security ran me off. Here is the best...

The DP Corvettes are at best comparable with the slowest P2 car. From what I remember, they had to slow the P2's down with a low grip aero package and restrictor to get the DP's up to speed. Don't count out the return of P1's to Sebring and the Tudor series.

Sorry for the off-topic post. Nice work on the composites on the Porsche prototype, Won.

That might be the new livery, but it's the old car.

Indeed, they had the pre-2014 prototype as well as the 2014 car in the group shot.

Wouldn't it have been cool if they also did the green/blue hippie one and the classic Gulf color on the third ? Great start, but what a Marketing coup that would have been !

I am a little concerned that the shrinking bodywork around the greenhouse makes them look like the older DP cars which, I think, is the definition of ugly.

With you on that one. The new Audi, especially, is trending this way.
