Wherw does the 175t in debt figure come from? National debt is usually quoted at 18T.

The only thing I know about the economy for certain, is to never trust anybody who claims they have it figured out entirely.

Seeing there are so many from California this is what I would do if I were a Californian.
Being single helps but I am not that either.

So if I was about to retire from working and living in Cal. I would sell my Cal. mansion and buy a motorhome. Establish a "domicile" in a low cost State and get a mailbox there. You want to be paying the least income tax possible. Having no property you would have no property taxes as you would in Cal.($1k a month or more etc).

If you have a spouse that thinks like you that is a bonus. If you don't you might lose her enroute and then you have a different set of problems.

Retirement is as expensive or not as you see fit. I don't like crowds so the Yukon or Alaska would be great in summer. Need some heat in winter then move to a warmer state. Arizona has much appeal in winter.

The nomadic RV thing interests me for how cheap you actually could live doing that. A small (30'-32') class A motorhome would suit one person very well, and a couple if they are like minded and could get along in close quarters, throw a 16' enclosed trailer behind it with a small econo box car, and a Honda Enduro, and you are set to explore. You wouldn't have to move far to change the scenery, and could actually get your stay for free if you stayed at a State or National Park campground as a volunteer.

You could visit the kids without imposing on their hospitality, and have enough money and time to go see anything you wanted to, or take the grandkids to Disney.
