well done. That is a very nice PP. It is SO much sexier than the HK. It is, as you will find out a nice gun to carry concealed as well. The blue job looks well done. I suspect it was badly pitted for them to have to polish off all the lettering. But it's a shooter and a good looking one to boot. You may find it likes FMJ rather than hollow point. They all like silver tip. They were not made for hollow point ammo. Also a .32 is much more effective in ball than HP. More penetration. Hollow point loses a lot of power on impact and this is a small round so use FMJ in it. Also depending on the size of your hand you may find that even with the longer frame you may want to add the magazine extension for your pinkie. I like things like the chambered round indicator and that it's a true double action gun in that you can have one in the pipe and not have to cock it. Just flip off the safety and pull the trigger, It also has a decocking feature. If the hammer is back and in the fire position, moving the safety lever to safe decocks the gun safely. Well done... Nice piece.

here is a good take down video. I use a plastic poker chip to hold the trigger ring open as it won't scratch the finish.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3ZdAeMqi3o You won't be taking it down this far but it is good to know. To clean you just have to remove the slide.. Easy stuff. |
Thanks targa!
I've been digging a little further, and that proof mark seems to indicate that it is a Waffen Proofed, Luftwaffe contract firearm. The s/n seems to line up with that notion, and the markings seem to match as well. Some links to Waffen Proofed, Luftwaffe PP's: Picture 3 from this auction has the same WaA359 and symbol above it: Walther PP 7.65 WaA/359 Luftwaffe contract 1c NR : Curios & Relics at GunBroker.com Same symbol here: SOLD - Luftwaffe Walther PP - Matching Magazine | Legacy Collectibles I seriously doubt this means I have a $1,000 gun - but it is pretty cool to know this firearm was issued to the German Luftwaffe. |
nice...

You really seem to have walked that line of getting a quality firearm with actual historical interest, that isn't a priceless heirloom, but instead a functional tool which you can employ in the manner for which it was constructed. Well done, I hope you really enjoy it.

$650.00.
Final offer.:D Very nice. I have had zero interaction with a PP, never held one. Like many other spoon threads here, I regret that my heretofore suspect resistance to internet spoon infatuation is further weakened. |
oh yeah....that's the one..wait ...what are this e numbers under it? look like this?..

It looks like a waffenamt code not a proof mark so to speak. It does make it a third Reich gun though..

+1 Dave (no surprise) speaks gospel! I had some failure to feed issues with my ppk/s .380 with hollow points. It doesn't have any problems with ball or hard cast bullets. Thanks to Dave I can carry mine and consider it reliable again. I must admit, I have shot a Manhurin PP in .32 and it is much nicer a shooter than mine. I think you've made a nice choice! |
Taz, targa - deal!

Thank you Micah for this kind words..I'm glad you feel confident again. I have had a few PPK/PPKS pistols and all had feeding problems and I like you felt I could not stake my life on them. Turned me sour on Walthers. Then my PP showed up on a trade in at the shop and because they are so sweet looking I fell once more. This time, knowing what I have learned about close German tolerances, and that they were made to shoot ball, I gave it a try. I have not looked back and feel totally confident in the pistol. I actually stopped carrying my 1911 as it was just too big. My PP is my main carry today. I even carry it inside my chest waders in a shoulder holster as insurance against what ever may appear when I am alone in the back woods here in the streams. I am glad to have helped you both enjoy many rounds with your guns. I will post a link to a guy I found on eBay that sells shoulder holsters made for the PP and PPK/S for like $30. He is in Lithuania so it takes a while to get them but the craftsmanship is outstanding for the money. Cheers to you both!

go here...the PP fits the same holster well. I like mine a lot.

Couple of days ago, I got a chance to put 48 rounds through the Walther. Wow - what a crisp trigger pull. Double action is very heavy - heavier than my HK P30. But single action is very light and the take-up is very short.
Manipulation of the slide is very smooth - it feels as if it were put together yesterday, not 73 years ago! The single dot front, u-shaped rear site makes it easy to acquire the target, and at 5 yards, seems to be on target. I'm not a great shot, so I won't be posting any pics of real tight groupings... The spoon came with two magazines - one designed for the PP, and one made for the PPK/S which is essentially the grip of the PP mated to the barrel of the shorter PPK. While the PPK/S magazine works ok in delivering the bullet into the barrel, it does not eject as smoothly as the PP magazine. I won't be using the PPK/S magazine. -Z |
