well. good news. my wife got a Career!
we are stoked.
my wife got a local nursing job. done and done!!! it's been an interesting road with her walking away from her life in commercial financing..and taking a new path. new schooling--> tossing the dice to get into a local nursing school. (66 open spots for thousands of applicants), then coming out the other side and finding out that a nursing job is not an easy gig to land. she even applied to positions in texas!! we figured a couple of years apart would be acceptable. we were lucky, no school loans, so the job search wasnt panicked. in the end, she got a job in wine country! Sonoma county. she will have the same commute as myself..for a little bit at least. maybe we move, maybe she transfers..dunno. one step at a time. pelican friends: we are once again..DINKS!!!!

Congrats! In my extended family we have two bachelor's in nursing and a PA, it's a great career that should treat her well. Can't outsource nurses, and with health care costs rising they are being asked to do more than ever.

Vash,
First of all, I suggest you sit back, quit your job, enjoy the bacon she's going to bring home. Buy a new Mt. bike, hunting stuff and just give her the bill. Oh BTW, congrats to the both of you. I see the third story addition coming. My sister's a BS in nursing, with a business management degree but she rather stay on at CCU. They seem to really enjoy their job. and the pay isn't bad. Once your wife has the experience (especially in a specific field), she will have no problem transferring to the hospital of her choice. |

So is it hard to get the first job in nursing? I always thought that was an in-demand profession?

it is..
many Hospitals partner with the school for 'pipeline action'.... but like everywhere..most prefer experience.. do well in your clinical /ward rotations.. schmooze & do lunch... it's really a thankless job these days.. PT treat you like a servant... Dr. blame you for the rest.. and your up to your ears doing paperwork to cover every bodies butt.. burn out rate is high.. best to specialize ..better pay / or the excitement of making a difference.. get into the ER ,ICU, Peds.. even better IMHO.. get into Hospital Admin.. Congrats to Mrs. Vash - and you! I remember the start of this journey and can't believe Mrs. Vash already arrived!
It is nice to know your wife could carry you if you'd lose your job or were otherwise not able to work any more, for example for 3 months out of yea year, during hunting season. That's an idea .... !!! George Last edited by aigel; 04-21-2015 at 11:24 PM.. |

My wife is an 30 year plus RN, MSN working on her Doctorate. She tells everyone, if your going into nursing, to get the BSN vs a two year degree. More hospitals are requiring it now a days.
