I truly believe that white North American people are the laziest. They would rather write checks for services rendered rather than take the pride to DIY. I think a big exception is those who live on a farm, We cut, split, stack, and burn our own firewood, muck out horse stalls, build construction projects (latest was renting a track hoe for the weekend to dig replacement trenches for clogged drain lines), we fix our own cars, mow our own yard, help out neighbors in need, and collapse tired at the end of the day (usually 8-8:30 PM). I know that Hispanics have a strong work ethic, but usually African American people have the least work ethic.......thanks Obama !

^5, from another farm boy. I especially like the help out neighbors in need. I think that must be a farmer creed or something.

You forgot a few:
-all NYC people would never survive outside of Manhattan
-all southerners are too slow to make it in the city due to inbreeding
-all Irish are drunks
-all Italians are mafia

Wow. A whole bunch of baseless stereotypes and caricatures in one post - and holding the current president responsible to boot! That's got to be some kind of record.

Relax. Just tell them it's a hardship. They don't want unmotivated jurors.

NYC does not accept self employment as a hardship. That aside the question remains why are they not required to pay minimum wage when you provide a service for them?

While DIY has many redeeming qualities/features...If you are working 80+ hours a week, you may just never get to all the things you want/need to do that way...and with such little family time, why waste it mowing grass is the local teen needs the work? Also, if you make $75hr, it is difficult...and maybe financially unwise to do a lot of $8hr work that takes you away from the $75hr job. Especially if there is a local pro who needs work and does it faster and better. It doesn't necessarily mean you are lazy. It might just mean you are working smarter. Sitting on your butt in an air conditioned house writing a business plan that will bring in tens of thousand per year for the rest of your life might just take priority over spending the day mowing your lawn or changing the oil in your car.

I do all the things you list myself (as much as time allows)...except I go to wok a 4:30am and often don't even get home until 8:30pm...and then try to do all that "stuff" on my "farm"...and also try to help out my aged mother take care of herself and her place. Needless to say, I often don't get to much of that stuff and it sits for weeks...or even years waiting for some time off. I wish I could find someone to do some of it for me that would do a good job at a reasonable price.
