I don't think we'd all 3 fit in the car!

RAC/RUF in Dallas just called. He has an open carrier coming in on Friday that can bring my car to LA for $750, and have it here by Wednesday morning.

I love road trips, and was looking forward to meeting Sidney, but that's a deal hard to pass up. The flights, gas, and kennel for Tank ad up to about $1,200. I think I'll have to take it.

I'm sorry for the false alarm everybody, and thank you for the volunteerism.

If you can get a good carrier to bring it for a reasonable price, that's always smarter. Road trips are fun, (but not so much on the 10 freeway for 16 hours), but something can always happen. A good shipper delivers the car with same miles on odometer as now and no scratches or stone chips.

Craig, if I didn't live in CT, I'd take the time and we'd have an epic journey

Much better idea. Less romantic, yes, but you'll like that car better in the twisties.

Oh, and congratulations.

I think he is planning the trip with Angela. This "shipper" story is just a way to get Sid off his back. :)

PICTURES????

Not from Dallas to L.A. you wouldn't. There isn't a single thing to see on that drive, other than flat desert and plains plus you'd be on the interstate surrounded by semis the whole way. Speeding tickets would be a certainty unless you set the cruise to 75-80. That's one long, boring drive. Sorry. :(

Not the way I would plan it.

Seriously, the drive from Socorro to Show Low is stunning. I have done it twice in the past five years. Hope to do it again soon.

Congratulations on your purchase, BTW...I'm curious what you opted for.

porsche4life 04-23-2015 09:15 AM

Paul I agree those are some awesome roads. But the trip craig I had planned was all about fast not scenic. We would be going through that area in the middle of the night during elk season. Not fun!

edgemar 04-23-2015 09:37 AM

Hey Craig-

What 997TT did you end up buying?...love to hear the details.

Congrats!

Craig T 04-23-2015 09:42 AM

Unfortunately, I needed to turn the ride around quickly due to a business meeting Wednesday. It would have been a straight-through drive to Phoenix (Sidney's house), then straight through again to Ventura. Not much fun for 19 hours on cruise control at 75mph.

When Sidney comes to LA next time, I'll let him drive it on something a LOT more fun then the 10 FWY.

porsche4life 04-23-2015 09:50 AM

Yup. Damn the logic!

I told craig, this is just motivation for me to guy buy my own! ;)

When my brother snagged his 964 he did the run in the opposite direction to stop and see me before heading home to S. FL.

Pretty much what he said, flat, boring and cold at night.

He did manage long stretches of triple digits and did show up at my house with a ticket for it.

911SauCy 04-23-2015 10:42 AM

That thing looks SWEET.

Of course it's a stick with LSD :)

Way back in the late '80's, some guy in Seattle flies a stranger to LA to bring his recently purchased F40 home.........This kid passed me about about buck/fifty on a 4 lane stretch of 101 south of Eureka.......Miles later I talk to some CHP stuffing the cuffed up driver in their back seat for a ride to Jail.

CHP sez: (days before cells phones).....He passed one of our off duty guys like he passed you. That CHP takes an exit and calls in.......CHP sits up between some heavy equipment at a road construction site and tells the flagger to keep everyone stopped......When F40 is in line, they just walk up and tell him the Jig is up........
