Nice car Craig! I've always wanted a red TT but had to settle for a well set up black/black one. I'm still pretty content...great car!

BUT have you looked into the only one real issue with these beasts?

Yet another coolant leak issue! - Rennlist Discussion Forums

As you may or may not know the coolant hose connections on these cars are GLUED and eventually the epoxy gives way. Check out Rennlist and you'll see what I'm talking about.

My TT is in the shop as we speak for this reason. I developed THE coolant leak about three weeks ago. I'm having them TIG weld the connections to fix these problem areas once and for all!

Just passing this info on to a fellow TT owner...don't shoot me! I'm just the messenger here!SmileWavy

Same problem exists on the 996TT. Usually crops up over 80K miles. Some people are *pinning* the glued tubes, reportedly with some success. Far cheaper than R&R...

I gotta disagree. Driving a 66 Shelby from Austin Texas back to LA a few years ago with one of my best friends was a trip we still talk about today. Driving it back was my idea and I have no doubt it was the most memorable and enjoyable thing he's done with his Shelby. Stone chips can happen whether you drive it 1000 miles from home or 2 miles from home.

Well after looking at the details, i gotta say, due to the push for time, doesn't look like it would have been a fun trip.....

I will say that driving a 997 from Charlotte to Wichita via the Smoky Mountains is a great memory for me. Sadly I arrived near Tail of the Dragon about dusk, which made the trip slightly less awesome.

That car is the cat's ass. You will just have to do a run up the coast in it or something instead.

My banzai run back from Colorado last year was rewarding. Some nice roads and gorgeous scenery as well as a quick way to get acquainted with the car. Good luck and be safe!

NO! :(

When the hauler went to RUF pick it up there was a puddle under the car. Turned out to be a cracked radiator. RUF replaced it for free, but I lost a day waiting for the new radiator and a day being repaired. I'm hoping it gets here late Saturday, but probably Sunday morning.

Wouldn't have been a problem had you purchased a 993tt, instead. :p

Seriously, better you found this problem this way, instead of the middle of BFE on your Cannonball drive home with Sidney.

porsche4life 04-30-2015 01:58 PM

Yikes! But definitely glad they found it that way and not you and I sitting in El Paso trying to figure out WTF.

Craig T 04-30-2015 03:21 PM

for sure…Not to mention had I found it here it would have been $1,500 expense to me.

We didn't do the road trip. I found another back-fill car carrier. Delivered to my door for under $900.

See? Smart move on the auto shipper and great that he noticed the puddle and told you before loading.

Yep! Door-to-Door Transport Company. Great service.

The RUF Auto Center guys have been great. They never batted an eye to fixing it, or the other things found in the PPI (slave cylinder, spoiler hydraulics, rear tires). They insist they want me to be super happy when the car gets here. Unless it gets here misrepresented (or they're pathologic liars ;) ), I have to say I'm very happy with them.

I've never heard anything bad about Ruf. Seems like a good place.

I hope so. It's about halfway here by now.

Damn, the phone rings tonight. It's the truck driver two days early. He says he's down the road but my street is too steep to unload. Askes if I can come down.. HELL YAH!

Congrats! Should we take a collection for bail money?

speeder 04-30-2015 10:41 PM

Already it looks mucho better in that pic than their cheesy photos. Congrats!

Also, my cousin worked for RUF very closely with Alouis for a long time and they are a classy outfit.

Nice! Are you guys required to have front plates in CA?
