It's official: I'm out of the market

I can't even afford a 912 now. Well, I can, but I won't bite at the prices I'm seeing now. What's going on here?

Impact bumper cars ,and particularly 78-83 sc's seem to be the last affordable air cooled toys. But this guys price seems out of touch in my opinion.

What Mike said. Look at 356 prices and we know they will never get cheaper.

I know the feeling. I want to replace the '62 XKE I sold many years ago; not gonna pay the current prices.

It's hard to find a nice SC for $25k, and the mid-year cars are right behind them. I think the days of the affordable air-cooled 911 is gone.

Personally I don't think $25k is a lot for a nice SC. After all, an SC is MUCH more car than a used Honda or Toyota.

Are 914's and 944's still affordable?

I don't really want to sell my twin '44's, and two is *almost* enough, so I don't follow market at all.

Outside of the smexy 2.7RS, not an earlyish 911 guy here. The 930 is where it starts for me. (excluding the hand hammered early 356's or race models).

The early 911's are to Porsche what the Testa Rossa is to Ferrari, far more "manufactured" in feel, better quality, but they simply do not hold with what Porsche/Ferrari make today.

I can understand going after the special cars, the hand built cars, but manufactured cars are likely to hit a correction when either the stock or housing market busts again.(2017-19?)

I don't know about 914s, but 944s are still affordable for a nice rust free, problem free car, it's in the $4000-$6000 range. I'll be holding on to my Alpine white 944 with burgundy interior and later cup wheels. I will probably sell it in favor of a 911 cab/hardtop a few years from now, or maybe a really nice 968.

My insurance policy for my Targa was up for renewal last month. I was with Hagarty - shopped around and went with the recently discussed State Farm agreed value policy discussed on a thread on this forum. Their algorithm spit out an agreed value of $29.5k - which is almost double what I paid for it 11 years ago.

I was very lucky about ten years ago, I got a completely unmolested 82sc for 11.5. It was the going price at the time, I am liking seeing the prices going up but dayum it is a little extreme

I honestly don't get middie pricing and the one I listed will never sell for even close asking.

This car though is all that and a bag of chips. Again, no storage.

I wouldn't touch any car (other than one intended for personal use as a beater or a quick flip) that's ever been driven in New England. Period. Guaranteed rust bucket. Stay away. Seriously. The cars here get beat to hell and turn to crap in very short order. I don't drive anything I care about between November and May.
