What does right to remain silent have to do with anything? That's not the same thing as right to run away. I never said Gray deserved to die. No one who enters police custody healthy should die in police custody. But running from the police ends up in a (usually violent) takedown 100% of the time. Someone with a rap sheet as long as Gray's must have known that. In every one of there cases where an unarmed perp ends up dead, the chain of events started when the perp either ran or caused the cops to go hands on.

Ok, maybe I was a bit over the top, but yeah, exactly, whether he precipitated the interaction or not, once he is in custody he deserved much, much better. Policing is a ridiculously hard job under the best of circumstances, but we as a people deserve better than this. And so do the 99.5 % of the cops out there, who are now painted with this brush.
Uphold the LAW. This isn't Silver City in 1880. White, black, whatever. Listen to Charles Ramsey, the Philly commissioner some time on the subject of race relations and cops. I won't quote him here, but its pretty rational.
