We had those in Costa Rica over springbreak. The noise never stopped. Not a lot of sleep to be had.

Dueller I live a few miles from you to the west and thankfully we don't have them this year. Along with the Kudzu you can keep them over there!

They sorta look like flying mudbugs...wonder how they taste?

We found a way to get rid of kudzu....

We crop dust it with bourbon and at night the Baptist come out and eat it.

Now THAT'S funny!

I think it was back in 2011 that NC had a brood that was making a bunch of noise. The deputies, and FD were talking about getting all the calls for "somebodies alarm going off somewhere".

At first, I thought the Corp. of Engineers had contracted out some timber cutting near work, but then I could also hear it at home, 7 miles away.

Sounded like a sawmill cutting a really long log, all the time. I remember it was a little quieter at night, but in the daytime, you could even hear it indoors.

I actually have nerve damage in my right ear as a result of a racing faux pas - be glad you're only dealing with cicadas. They will go away. The humming in my ear never does...

From what I read virtually every critter loves to eat them. Our dogs love em. They have no defense and just rely on sheer numbers to be successful.

We have a good crop of them every summer. Usually when the heat cranks up. In July and August the Cicadas get busy. We don't get the huge numbers of them like some places.
