We've got mid-top of the line Samsung front loaders. Bought and had to leave in last house, so we bought the same for the new house. They work well and have a 10 year powertrain warranty. haha

I just found out something about the gasket in the front loaders not drying properly when owners do not keep them clean. It smells and now there's action law siut against LG, samsung, and GE and all those companies. Look into it. When my washer and dryer goes (20 years) I am buying a set of Samsung. We put them in for people often and they are really, really quiet. I love that.

Leaving the door of the washing machine open a few inches when not in use will prevent the smell issue, or at least it has for us.

Living in the desert seems to help, but even here it gets a little funky if you leave it closed. Running sanitizer every month or so helps with our samsung front loader.

Clean the filter, btw, if it's smelling bad. News flash for some owners - there's a filter!

I bought a Samsung and have been pretty happy with it.
I did buy an extended warranty with it. Never had an issue with it yet.

Like others have said, leave the door open when not in use and crack open the detergent drawer as well.

The salesman also recommended to stay away from liquid detergents because they contribute to the stink.

Bought Miele front loaders. I thought the wife was crazy to spend that much money. But boy do they work.

And yes leave the door open esp. on the washer and change (clean in Miele's case) the filter.

The Duet washers have a filter too. It traps lint and then limits the pump causing the need to replace the pump. Take off the front bottom panel and check it.

We've had LG front loaders for 8 years with only one problem (door seal wore out after 6 years on the washer, replaced for about $120). Overall they have worked great.

I have my eye on the new Electrolux steam units. They claim you can wash a full load in 15 minutes and dry a full load in 15 minutes. I looked at them recently at the local appliance specialty store. This would save an epic amount of time in my house. Also the steam dryer supposedly can be used in place of ironing, at least to get wrinkles out.

Yep. Seems I have to clean it once a year. I find all kinds of stuff in the filter. And does it stink!

You neighbor all know when you do laundry. There's something to be said about peace and quiet. A small but simple quality of life we all come to expect. We all like our open exhausted modded 911s, but a daily quiet and smooth boring Lexus is always welcome.

That's good to know. We'll probably be replacing the old units we have later this year.

The stinky gasket issue is easily avoided by keeping the door cracked / open. That's front loader 101 ....
