saw it last night.

how did they make it back thru the pass that was blown up into a huge pile of rubble. all gone when they came back..
The bikers use it like a trap, they, blow it up to trap or stop others, then rebuild it to "reset" the trap.

How bad was the R content? I've heard "epic" from others, would like to take the son but not if its too nasty.

OK, went to see it last night with the eldest kid while wife babysat grandson.

I'm not giving it the 'OMG, best thing ever, gotta see it 100 times' review. But it is totally worth seeing. Let's face it, no matter how much we try to dress up the moral feel good side of the plot, there really isn't much in the way of a plot. It's just an excuse for a two hour car chase. And as a two hour car chase it's brilliant. It's really worth seeing it on the big screen. Some of the action scenes are just amazing, you're holding your breath as they unfold. The cars are really stunning. I especially love the 'Gigahorse', 'Nux's car'and the 'Doof wagon' (that I call the 'Metal wagon' coz it's blaring out metal) Also I like the revised Interseptor after it was stolen and cleaned up (not a spoiler)

I was actually surprised it got an 'R' Rating. There may be a cumulative effect of a lot of violence, but there is no single act that is worse than may PG13 films and less in the way of nudity. The violence is mainly implied. You see people falling from vehicles, you get a shot of them hitting the deck, but the you just see the vehicle bumping up and down implying they are being run over, rather than seeing them getting mangled by the wheels. Ditto the other death and dismemberment, it's implied rather than actually seen

Huh?

I don't know about your lady, but my wife is asking me to take her to see this flick.

BTW: She LOVES the epic Frankenheimer's 1966 movie movie Grand Prix, 2013 Rush, the original Mad Max. She also made me take her to the first Fast and Furious...lol.

Matt - do you use Common Sense Media? Great web site for gauging content. They give their opinion, but site visitors also weigh in.

Another good source of info if imdb. They have a parent's guide on most movies that gives similar info:

I saw it with my son... One word, BRILLIANT!

Charlize Theron was a real stand out.

Quentin Kenihan is a local Adelaide boy. He's often seen racing around on his wheelchair in town.

Saw it this afternoon. Minimal plot with off the charts action/stunts. Felt like I was watching Cirque de Apocalypse.

Tripped across some unedited behind the scenes footage.

I saw it last night with my wife. It was a very good movie that had me actually holding my breath during some scenes. If you paid attention you would have realized that all the pasty faced folks were Immortal Joes offspring...through his numerous wives. While not quite what I was expecting from a Mad Max movie, I found it very entertaining. They really didn't flesh out the Mad Max character much , so it was more that Charlize Theron was the actual star. I saw it in 3d which made it very comsumming. I give it 4.5 stars.

Laneco 05-26-2015 08:13 AM

We saw it yesterday and on a 1 to 5 star scale, I'd give it a 2, maybe a 3.

Unclear motivation for Furiosa. Why is she driven to save THESE women? Why didn't she wind up as one of them?

Why would you ship out mother's milk? Wouldn't it be easier to just trade water which apparently you have an abundant supply?

The main bad guy (forget his name, white hair) starts out the movie being a virtual cripple who must be helped to stand up and walk but them seems to transform into some type of all-powerful super-villain.

Why would the other factions (fuel guys, ammo guys) team up to help the main bad guy get his harem back? Wouldn't the failure of that guy to procreate actually increase THEIR power?

The pale wife with the long blonde hair. Her hair changes length several times in the movie. Seriously, like changes a FOOT of length.

So many silly holes in this plot that it might as well have been made of swiss cheese. Not even 'graphic novel' quality plot. If you are going to see this, wait until it comes out on video or Netflix.

Sorry guys, just real unimpressed with this movie.

Thanks for your point of view Angela.

Meanwhile... Worldwide earnings so far: $239,165,000!

Ha ha! I just saw it last night, and I think on the "to do" list, "invent a plausible storyline" was somewhere in between "make sure craft service supplies peanut m&m's" and "find out who took my favorite red pen".

But, man, as a car chase, whoo-hoo! Glad we saw it on a big screen!

pavulon 05-31-2015 08:15 AM

A 2 hour post apocalyptic truck chase/freak show. Burning Man/Powder/Walking Dead meets Dukes of Hazzard on a meth, spray paint and breast milk bender with a great story line. Material for a mediocre comic book and really sad excuse for a movie. I'd like my money back.

I'm conservative, I don't see "R" rated often for this reason.
This movie IS epic. I will take my kids because there are no language, nudity, vulgar, gore, or horror issues to deal with. There are some amazingly put together war sequences. Amazing because everything was thought through. Why, how, and no unrealistic "howed that get fixed" isssues in the movie. Fast Furious car franchise movies make me angry with the unrealistic sequences and jumping cars 30 ft only to see it drive cleanly stupid unrealistic outcomes but not in this movie. If it's broke they fix it. If it's really broke you won't see it again because it's ruined.
Some things were unrealistic but no more that the original (think push button for a blower on an engine to create boost) in this movie, they simply spit gas into the blower scoops for more boost which is rediculous but was fun to see.

I was loving it the whole time. I found myself laughing joyfully through the whole movie. It was great! I'm not kidding. I don't offer up this kind of review every time I have a good time at a movie either.
This movie is in my top 10 seriously.

I've been thinking about getting a projector and making a screen to have movie night in our driveway. I think this would be a pretty good movie for that some night!

A buddy of mine at the beach does this in his back yard, lots of fun. Go for it.
One of the currant "Sebring Tradictions" with the RV group I camp with is to show LeMans and other movies on the side of an RV, again, lots of fun in the nights leading up to the race (we bring the RV in on Wed:D).

Nostril Cheese 05-31-2015 02:22 PM

How we do it at home.

We have a large screen we setup in the backyard. Last time we did Lebowski. Good times.

That's not Lebowski.

Saw this today finally when a vendor took us to a screening. Amazing. I really got a kick out of the guy playing guitar on top of the truck.

If you go and begin to wonder why you're sitting there watching this movie you paid good money to see, remind yourself that you knew going in it was a Mad Max movie. All of a sudden it's a great movie!

The costuming, the constructions, the stunts were great. Millions of tiny details. No plot, no character development, no motivations, just Mad Max all the time. Very fast, very intense.

Scott R 06-01-2015 05:31 PM

*spoiler alert*

Why do they insist on blowing up the "Interceptor" each time?
