Going to meet one of my idols tonight!

Tonight I am going to a reading/signing at Harvard by none other than Kurt Vonnegut!

actually, the reading is by his son, Mark Vonnegut, who has a book out on schitzophrenia. Kurt will be signing books, though.

Of all my literary idols, Kurt Vonnegut is one of the only ones I will have the chance to meet (Hemingway, Orwell, and D. Adams are all deceased), and I am very excited. Now I just have to figure out how to meet Hunter S. Thompson and Tom Wolfe...

Thumbs up

one thing i learned is... "when you get a chance to meet someone famous... drop everything and do it because you never know if you'll never have another chance."

i missed an opportunity to meet Timothy Leary and passed it up. i thought "oh, next time." there wasn't a next time .

same goes for Jam Master Jay, and numerous others.

have fun!

I heard a H S Thompson "story" recently. Seems a guy sent a book for his signature and got it back with a cheap stamping on the inside jacket, stating, "This book has been shot by Hunter S Thompson". And there was a big, freaking hole blown through it. Urban myth??

It might not be too hard to meet H.S.T.....*if* you can find the "Owl Farm".
Getting out of there alive might be another story.

Not an urban legend.. My buddy has a hole blown through a book. Took like three years to get it back though. It has a stamp on the inside that says, "this book was personally shot by Hunter S Thompson"

Needless to say, the Vonneguts were amazing! Funny! Insightful! I hope I wasn't too doofy when I went up and shook Kurt's hand.
