Adding extra RAM and HD capacity is not "broken"

And my wife continually dropping her phone is not the phones fault.

The woman can crush diamonds just by staring at them.

Learned it from her mother.

After a visit from the in laws I need to take inventory of items to fix or replace.

Woman is a 4'9" one man wrecking crew.

My all time favorite to open up.

Thing is a work of art.

Not a tool needed.

Everything on sliders and trays.

Retaining screws are large and knurled so you all you need are your fingers.

Nothing worse than opening a Winblows PC to swap a card and have to fight with the spaghetti wiring hanging everywhere and razor sharp edges of the stamped chassis only to close it, fire it up and hear the sound of wires grinding against a CPU or GPU fan, ugh.

We should compare tableware collections. We have one of every design, because that's all that's left of the complete sets.

Thanks for the "help" doing dishes, "Mom".

Ahh, she must be like mine, doesn't believe in gravity so she slams everything into place to make sure it sticks.

I think it's only 20GB, but apparently it's worth looking into tweaking it.

My car's stock stereo (2015 GTI) simply duplicates the iPod's navigation "paradigm". It's fast, easy, and works via either the car's touchscreen or one of the knobs.

I just hate that Apple offed the hi-cap iPods to in favor of what is essentially an overpriced, neutered, and capacity-limited iPhone.
If you're already using Google Play...do you happen to have an Android product (phone), and Bluetooth capability to the car? I ask because I use my LG G3 (expandable up to 125G), running Google Play to Blutooth over the car stereo. I have a nothing-special aftermarket Pioneer in my car, and the onscreen controls work just fine; never have to touch the phone. Doesn't charge anything to my phone's data plan.

For what it's worth, I no longer buy iPods. Had one that lasted less than a week--3 uses and it completely bricked. Never had that problem with any other device, from any other brand (and I've had many).

All this bit's and bytes, technology and production. The Chinese have us by the balz.

Apple products are inherently designed for only a short life span anyways. Got to keep the economy puffed up. That's why you can't even replace the rechargeable batts when the time comes. The price for this junk is laughable. No one else is going to come close, but maybe for India in making for Apple or others.

In a way I think its karma going back to the days when the US had the Chinese slaves building the railroads. LOL

I still have my original 1st gen iPhone which is 8 years old now and works perfectly fine.

The pace of technological advancement is what is causing the "obsolescence" not the quality of the product.

And whoever told you that you can't replace the battery lied to you.

Piece of cake.

Yes, but then I have to navigate through the horrid Google Play app on my phone to play music. My car's audio system is very iPod-friendly but barely talks to anything else. Bluetooth music controls are limited to skip ahead, skip back, and volume.

Using the phone would be an unacceptable safety risk even if the UI was simple and intelligently designed (which it is not). In addition the UI seems to change with every minor revision. Someone over at Google needs to receive an atomic wedgie.

I still have my Mac Pro from 2000 with dual 1Ghz G4 Processors and 1.5 GB of RAM. It works perfectly. The only thing I've done is upgraded the hard drives. My mom uses this computer for surfing the web. My original 20GB iPod with the micro drive is still being used by my brother-in-law in his car.

My wife's 17" MacBook Pro which we purchased in 2007 just died. I think it's the motherboard. A shame too as I had just added a solid state drive to it.

I currently have a newer (2013+) macbook pro retina, an 8 core mac pro (2008), a 27" iMac (2013), two iPad mini's for the kids(2013), an iPad 2 for the wife (2012) and two iPhone 5's(2012). All working flawlessly so far. If one of them breaks I'll update this thread.

I have two of those.

Great box.

They are my daily workhorses.

They have yet to choke on anything I've thrown at them.

The main main one has 32gb of ram, 7 TB's inside and 12 TB's on an external RAID, quad display. Thing is a beast.

Same here. I've done all kinds of repairs to my old MacBook including the motherboard with absolutely zero electronics experience just using the ifixit site.

Part of what you're paying for with Apple - not getting a Google-designed UI

Really? I thought I was pretty clear. Several other people seem to understand the issue. Perhaps you should brush up on modern tech.

I'm well aware the HDs don't last forever. The problem is that Apple no longer offers an equivalent product. All of their similar products cost 2x with 1/2 the capacity.
Yeah wtf Porsche- I want a 73 carrera RS for $10,000 like they did back in the day- Dude get real-

I have one as well that is my main system. I have used it pretty much daily since 2008 and the only failure was some third-party RAM and a third-party mouse. I have been considering replacing it with something newer but I am having a hard time justifying it. I suspect when the latest version of OS X doesn't run on it will be the time.

I have been using Apple products since 1979 and they have been as or more reliable than products I have used from other consumer electronics companies.
