People do the weirdest stuff
My brother runs service for one of the largest Toyota dealers in S FL.
Calls me today for a favor. The dealership also has a rental service. Seems one of their clients rented a car in Ft Lauderdale and left it at DFW airport. Been there for 15 days so far in short term parking at $22.00 per day. Would I mind getting it for him and parking it at my house till the transporter shows up to bring it back. I asked "who the hell does something like that"? He said it's not the worst thing he's seen. Couple of months back they had a car rented using a stolen credit card, they found it in Indiana. The "renters" had been using it as a getaway car in a string of robberies.

I told them I was leaving the keys with the girl at the Delta Airlines counter. Sheesh.

They know the car is still there because it has a GPS tracker.

I sure hope they stick the "renters" with the parking fee...

I hope it's not in one of the newer multilevel parking garages, especially terminal D, you'll be circling for hours.

Got it! Tell the dealer I'll drop it at SFO on Tuesday. And this time I'll lock it and put the keys in the Hertz drop box.

Not looking forward to it. They sent me a remote so I can look for the flashing lights, that is if the battery is not dead.

Well, figures... especially since we know there is a Toyota with FL plates in short term parking that is unlocked and has
the keys in it!

I'm assuming since your bro has a GPS lock on it they can tell you within about a 100ft circle of where it is right?

About 20 years ago I vacationed with friends in Kauai... being cheap youngins we flew the redeye back to the mainland... I called the car rental place and told the we were flying out around 10PM and could I drop the car off... "oh no bra we will be closed!"
"Well, what do you want me to do with the car?" "Just leave it in the parking lot unlocked with the keys in the ignition bra."

I had to do a one-way rental when I was in LA on my bike and had to be in Vegas for work, but there were crazy monsoons in SoCal that week, which would have been impossible to ride through. I explained it at the Enterprise desk, said I needed the car for one day, would drop it off at the airport in Vegas. No prob. Drove to Vegas and they wouldn't accept a car with out of state plates, said CA car had to be returned in CA. So I had to keep it until I could drive back to LA. Four days later I dropped it off at that same Enterprise in LA and the same guy didn't recognize me or recall my wanting a one-way rental. He just asked me what I was expecting to pay. I said about $30. So he made the bill $30. Done.

Back in I was just 20 I flew down to Daytona Beach, FL to film a football game for the coaches to watch. I made good money in the days before video shooting 16 mm B&W movies of every play. It helped pay for my 914.
At the airport I showed my drivers license and handed them my credit card. Since I was under 21 my mom had to co-sign the credit card for me to even have one. I rented the car and drove to my hotel and then drove around for a while looking at the sights. I filmed the game the next day and when to the airport. The manager was beside himself because I was under 21 and they were not supposed to rent cars to anyone under 21 since I could not legally sign a contract. He just tore up the rental agreement after he inspect the car and saw it was fine. He said he would get fired if the company found out I was allowed to drive off in it. I did not even have to pay for it. Bonus!
