I have had the same remorse issue with 356s, twice. I still want another one, then I drive one, and think "meh, too expensive now"... Try to remember you sold your car for a reason, that reason is probably *still* valid, and there are countless other cool cars out there for you to try (just trying to help!)...
At least you only did this once with the 911SC - I get to hear from both my A and C because I became friends with the owners and they love reminding me they are worth 3 to 5 times what I sold them for (just saying that to make you feel better) - you *could* still get a 2.7 or another project SC, within reason, but you've been there - try something else ? It's getting harder to find classic cars with a good price/fun ratio anymore, especially with a Porsche badge on it... Since you're into bimmers also, I'd recommend a 2002 ;-) Having a modern + an oldie seems to keep the demons at bay ! |

I agree. They're really cool little cars, unfortunately/fortunately I've found the Miata. Amazingly fun little car, for little money.

I sold my SC in April. It wasn't for sale but I got a really good offer. It was a great car for cruising on country roads. I had the car since 97 but when given the offer it was time.

Looks like a good compensation package. You could still swing an SC or 915 Carrera project if you wanted. I bought an SC with a 3.2 last winter because I felt like the window was closing.
I think it can still be done, depending on what your comfort level is. We could egg you on, or we could tell you to drive the piss out of the Z4. Personally, I needed a 911 in the garage, and I would up with a good driver that also meets with wifely approval. It wasn't an entirely rational decision though. In my case, helping a sick friend to sell his 911 really gave me the bug. I passed on his, but the desire was awakened. If you feed the desire, it will grow. If you push it down, it will eventually fade. Either way, you can look back, and say to yourself you have had the pleasure of owning a good 911. Think about it for a while, and put some pennies away. Drive the Z4. If you still feel strongly about this in a few months, something will pop up for sale sometime between Thanksgiving and New Years. All those winter sales will dry up though in early January, so you have to be focused, and ready to move. I am now committed to a great driving rolling restoration project. Commitment or happy memories ? Your choice. Have some fun this Summer, and if you feel the urge, get your ducks in a row and start perusing the ads. But consider that you already have a lot of fun things without any commitment or hassle. |
