Health Care Workers and Covid Vaccination?
I wonder if there will be a significant number of health care workers that refuse to take the new Covid vaccination rolling out this week?? They are knowledgeable people and are inadvertently being used as guinea pigs. Many must be having serious reservations I would think.
My understanding is that there are many that do not take the common flu vaccine for various reasons.

I posted this in the Pfizer thread. An interesting read...

Ex-Mrs Beard was very concerned about Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The sad thing is that the Flu can give it to you. The latest flu vaccines have a LOWER occurrence of G-B than the flu! The mRNA vaccines are totally different than the old style "killed virus" style vaccines. I believe the J&J is that type of vaccine.

Weren't the guinea pigs the 10's of thousands of participants in the vaccine trial that's been going on for months?
Also, I'm fine with people not wanting to get the vaccine. I'm also fine with private companies making getting the vaccine a condition of employment. It's very odd to me that often times, people who don't want to get vaccines want the world to accommodate them. |

"You'd be wrong. If you work at a hospital you're required to have a flu shot. This is an industry standard requirement."
I should of clarified that I am referring to Canada where I think on average 50% of healthcare workers get the flu shot.

Just saw this. No mention here of mandatory requirements.

My step daughter who is a nurse and works with covid patients is required to take it by her employer. I don't know how universal this is.

As a healthcare worker you lied or falsified medical documents?

Maybe I'm not catching what you are saying but I would bet there are a few things that other folks would like the gov't to mandate for you for your own good and you expect them to accommodate you in your refusal to agree.

In the hospital system that I work in you don't have to get a flu shot. But you can't work here if you don't get the shot. They don't make you work here, it's your decision. But if you do, you need the shot. Simple really. HR says every year people leave because they don't want to get it.

Here in LA, the hospital standard is to get the flu shot. You can opt out, but you have to wear a mask at all times (not a big deal this year, but in previous years is was not the case that we all did so everywhere), some sort of sticker on your hospital badge, and you have to watch videos and have a one-on-one counseling session with some supervisor/educator to school you on the error of your anti-vax ways.

Wife is physician, will be getting it in the next 2 weeks. Sign me up buddy. I would gladly pay for it out of pocket, zero concern about safety.

Just off the phone with my special lady friend that works on the Covid floor of the local hospital....probably not many of us here in the forum are pregnant, plan to get pregnant or breast feed, but if you are taking a blood thinner you might not be a candidate for the vaccine as she reads it.

Back to the original question, I think the vast majority of front line health care workers (doctors, nurses, dietary, CNA, therapists, pharmacy, janitors, administration, etc) will willingly take the vaccine. Most are already used to getting vaccinated for work, and they see it from a medical perspective, not a political one. That's those providers who deal with hospitalized or institutionalized patients, because they see what it's like to be sick.
I think that's different than health care providers who work in outpatient settings. My impression is that there's some resistance amongst those MAs, secretaries, and admin from getting vaccinated. I think that may be closer to what it's like in the general population. Maybe because they don't see sick people? I listen to those peoples' opinions and rationales, and I think they sound pretty uneducated.
