I'm an idiot- installing insulation in June !!!!
Well like most jobs the completion of my man cave creeped up on me. To the point that the past two days I was installing reflective foil then ceiling insulation. Nothing makes you sweat like a pig quite like climbing in the rafters when it's 90 degrees out
I rented some 10 ' scaffolding which has made it much easier but I'm doing this alone. It took me two days to finish one half of the 24 x 26 garage ! Oh and when you sweat like a pig it's amazing how the 4 ' wide roll of reflective foils sticks to you like fly paper ! I got a quote just for labor of 1600.00 and I said no way I'll do it myself.........stubborn German . But the money saved can go in the Porsche fund. I had the mini-split set to 75 and at ground level it was wonderful.........in the rafters not so much. I'll be glad when this part of the build is done.

Man that sucks. I brought home about 40 2'x4' pink Owens Corning insulation batts for free back in March when I bought a bunch of 4'x8' plywood sheets from a store that was remodeling. I've used most of the plywood sheets, but all of the batts are still sitting in my bedroom waiting to go up into the 100 degree attic....I think i'll wait for fall.

When I built this house, the bid to blow in insulation was less than I would pay for the material?

Well done... A long time ago I went up into the roof space to install a TV aerial.
Normally it would go on the roof but zoning restrictions in my area wouldn't allow that. After some time and struggle somehow I managed to put my foot through the ceiling. lol I can laugh about it now

Lots of sweaty work there.
Just a a point of fact, pigs don't sweat much at all. They wallow in the mud to cool off. They have few sweat glands and they don't help much to regulate temperature. I sweat like a race horse or a whore in church pick your metaphor.

I did the same thing several years ago, either late May or early June in the attic of the house crawling around under and over the AC ducting and trying to avoid having my head and shoulders impaled by the thousands of nails that were protruding from the plywood by at least an 1" or more. Trying to get around the AC ducting made me feel like I was Catherine Zeta Jones in this scene.
![]() I did the whole attic with R-25 over the top of the old rock wool that was already up there. I think the materials cost about $450, and we made that back in less than a year. It sucked, the attic temp was between 125° and 135°. I took numerous breaks for water and would put a cold wet towel on my head when I came down. It sucked, but it was worth it. I just wish I'd done it 15 years earlier.

I just did nine pot lights. I hate working in the attic.

I'll be back at it tomorrow taking the day off from work to start the other half of the garage. Going to finish it up on Thursday both days to be in the mid 90's ! Staying hydrated is key lots of water, Gatorade and ice tea is working for me. I have to return the scaffolding on Friday so full speed ahead !

Yes, you're an idiot
. I've been clearing around one of my ponds. It's only 96 and humid, but even "I" ain't going into an attic this time of year....at least I can stop and catch bass if I want to. An old farm pond...I probably was the last one to cast in it 20+ years ago...so guess what I'm doing tomorrow instead of toiling in a HOT attic , in JUNE, in GEORGIA...are you nuts ?

KC911 thanks for the inspiring speech
I'm sitting here drinking coffee trying to get mentally prepared for the battle ahead........I will win........... !! Last night after work I had to move all the crap from the unfinished side of the garage over to the finished side including my center console boat. Scaffolding is up and ready to go. I'm a little bit smarter now having done one side so it should go a little bit quicker. For me the reflective foil is the worst to install, once that is done the fiberglass insulation is a piece of cake. At 7:00 the mini-split AC will be turned on and the work will begin. If I survive the day I'll be posting later

Just finished the same thing in my garage. I worked Saturday mornings from 7-8. Took me a lot longer, but it beats working in a sweat shop.
Bats are expensive.

I survived another brutal day ! Put in a marathon session from 7:00 this morning to 6:00 this afternoon the hell with this hot weather
. I had a better pace on the reflective foil and I'm more than 3/4 done. Back to work tomorrow then I'm taking Thursday off to complete the job. I can already feel a difference in the garage just with it 3/4 insulated. My plan is to return the scaffolding Thursday evening and be done with this portion of the build. I need to figure out what I want for a finished ceiling but I'm still leaning towards either tongue and groove pine 1/2 " thick or possibly some kind of metal. The T & G might give just a little bit more insulating affect plus noise absorbtion. Even had the wife out there helping for a little bit. Tomorrow we celebrate 37 years of marriage ! It's all good
