Best Go-Pro type camera options?
What do you think is the best Go-Pro type camera option for capturing in POV? Need the largest storage cap and back up options along with battery life. Need up to a few hours (3-4) a day and be able to download at night. Ideas?

Over 90 minutes recording requires external battery.
Storage capacity is down to the SD card, get a 64 GB. I am using a cheap but excellent chinese minicam, the Mobius 1080p. See Techmoan site and his YouTube channel for review. About $75. Easy to use. Can plug in external USB battery. If you need water proof, not a good solution.

Yeah, how do you pull that off? I think you're looking at a hard wired app, no battery, and record straight to HD. You could do that with a video recording camera, such as a Canon, but the storage requirement in 1080p for that many hours would be staggering. I'm thinking of how to install multiple security cameras. I'm going to definitely hire a pro. For court evidence, it would be nice to record in 1080p, and to compress data after several days for storage. But for 2 dozen or so cameras, this is going to be a project.

I'm not clear if you're doing video, stills or time-lapse or if you need/want wide angle but there is the "Nabi Pro" which is a cheap Go-Pro knock off. I bought one from Woot for $50 and am quite happy for the price.
I bought an extra battery and a bigger SD card and it suits my needs just fine, the only negative as you can hear, is the camera microphone sucks pretty bad. This was shot early on an overcast Sunday morning with bad lighting. "" This one is in a different car with better lighting. Last edited by SoCal911T; 06-28-2015 at 04:50 PM.. |

18 min of 1080p video is 2.2 GB (just checked a file at random) so 3-4 hours would be <30 GB, not a problem since micro SD cards are readily available to 64 GB and even some 128 GB.
Battery life will the the limiting factor. Also if you want to turn the camera on and off remotely, e.g. via WiFi. And waterproofing, since the waterproof cases don't allow external battery pack cords.
