F150 supersized ?

My old 2002 F150 Supercrew was getting a bit long of tooth so I gifted it to my grandson and bought a 2015 F150 Supercrew (most likely the last pickup I will ever own?). The 2015 makes the 2002 look like a mid-sized truck and the interior of the 2015 is huge...

And for what it is worth, the 3.5L Ecoboost will truck it on down the road....

It's a natural progression. Everything gets bigger, fancier, more powerful, etc., etc. with almost each new year that passes. The public just keeps buying it. I have an old '03 F350 that your current F150 probably compares to in terms of size. I won't be buying anything new, since my old truck does everything I want of it, has lots of miles left in it, and is paid for. When that truck was new, it was the top model, with the diesel engine. MSRP was something like $38K. I'm not paying $50K to $60K just to replace a truck that serves me well, and I don't need the ego boost to be seen driving a new one. Not saying your ego needed a boost, since you obviously got full use out of your old one.

Marv is right, the progression up the size chart has been seen across the Big four.

My sons 1999 Tacoma is tiny compared to the new ones, which are almost as big as the old Tundras. Our 1990 Toyota pick-up was smaller than the Tacoma.

I sold my 2005 F150 an bought a 2015 Tundra and they are about the same size. Both are great trucks.

I noticed this too (mind you from the seat of my Miata everything looks like a 18 wheeler).

My dad had an old 150 and I loved that truck.

What is the point of having model numbers (150, 250, 350) if they swell the 150 up to 350 size?

They wouldn't sell a 1200 motorcycle as a 600...

My 2001 Tundra is dwarfed by a new one. Looks like a Tacoma compared to it.

Marv, my wife would get a charge out of the "me needing an ego boost" as our "fleet" prior to the new truck was the '74 911, a 2006 VW Jetta and the 2002 F150... all with well over 150K miles on them. Having the latest, greatest model vehicle is not exactly one on my priorities in life...

New truck only because wife decided since selling the sailboat we need to look at a small travel trailer (5-6000 GVWR area) and I think this new one will do it. Besides just being old, The 2002 had small V-8 and no tow package so it was out.

I didn't really want to mess with selling the 2002 on CL or ? and it had some hail damage so no trading it in and the grandson goes to a small rural TX high school where pickups are the main mode of transportation.. so off it went.

Nice truck!

I traded in my 2001 F150 with 220k on the clock for a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 late last year. It's a lot bigger and I'm still getting used to it. It just doesn't turn like the old one. But it sure rides better.

I had a newer 2500 Hd for a little while. They spent so much effort making it look bigger that I found it was hard to use. The bed sides were so damn tall, that I could not load anything up over the bed rails, and I needed a milk crate to stand on to get at anything in the back.
It looked bigger, and tougher, but I found it difficult to work out of for what I was doing . That's us mericans. Supersize!

Up to 1997 all Fords were the same body whether it was a 150, 250, or 350, I even think the F450 was the same. 1998, there was only one style also but different from the 97, In 1999, they were two different styles.

Jack. Sorry you took the "ego boost" comment to heart. I really wasn't saying that and that's why I put the disclaimer at the end. You were obviously at a point where you had to make a move and made the best one for you. My wife & I are getting to where we won't buy something new if it has been upgraded over the prior model to the point where we feel like we're being taken advantage of. We'll look around for a replacement that fits our needs & wants more. I get the feeling from time to time others are starting to feel the same.

Marv, didn't take it that way at all and have to agree with you re: new vehicles. If I didn't need a tow vehicle would have kept the 2002 much longer. All the electronic stuff that can / will go wrong on these new vehicles (most of which is not necessary) is getting ridiculous. But what the heck, I'll be 69 this month and this is most likely the last pickup I'll own..

Perhaps there is a correlation between vehicle size and supersized people.... no?

Try parking a new truck in a downtown parking garage. Good luck opening the door.

True
My 09-F150 (100% OEM) is 6'4" So won't get in my office parking lot...
Newer ones are as tall... I don't understand why since under body clearance is the same..

Trucks are growing big only to attempt to dwarf the other guy... Sad.

Congrats on the new truck.

I took a similar picture not too long ago at IAH / Bush when I parked my 1988 Mazda between two later model Mustangs, both which dwarfed my little car. I got a chuckle out it.

Nice truck, my 2012 F150 is a very good one.

I've never understood why each new model needs to be bigger than its predecessor. The Audi A4 has grown so big that they came out with a new A3 to fill the compact car void. The new A3 is the same size as the 1999 A4 that I used to own.

We came to the same conclusion back on 2008. Honda Ridgeline was a better choice than a Chevy Silverado based on price, size, and no added benefit for extra 2000 lbs of towing.

Jump to 2015, same conclusion, different answer. Honda had oddly abandoned the Ridgeline. So the next best option is the new Chevy Colorado. Tows as much as the 2008 Silverado. Not too big. And 10k less.

Would have considred a Ford Ranger, but no crew cab.

So I'm in the same camp: these new Rams, F150, Silverado, and Tundra are way too big for me.

Just wish honda got their act together and refreshed the Ridgeline sooner. Now it's sometime in 2016/2017??

The new Silverado is ridiculously big and I was convinced I was going to buy a Tacoma or a Colorado but ended up buying a Silverado. It didn't make sense for me to buy a small truck when the difference in price for a Colorado and the Silverado was $3000 all said and done. Especially considering the Silverado stickered for almost 10k more. I have to admit the more I drive it the more I like it.
