There is much squidlyness in this. The guy is lucky he did not become a donor and only lost a bunch of skin. Bet the truck did not even know what happened.
And in aikido we call that a barrel roll and something we adamantly discourage. Barrel rolls do not burn off the energy very well and you end up doing over-over again rolling.

Thats why I sent my son to race school, so that he could learn how to run out of room in a field, and better yet, how to actually turn a bike so that he wouldn't run out of room.
This guy didn't know what he didn't know... (Meanwhile, the guy behind him was at the same speed but had no difficulty negotiating the turn even while watching the crash)

Yep. I hope he did not damage the truck at all. I do feel sorry for the truck owner.
That idiot SQUID, no sympathy for his road rash and damaged bike. Take it to the track ya jerk.

That was a pretty sedate speed. He just didn't know how to ride a motorcycle. (imagine going into a turn in your car and being afraid to turn the steering wheel)
(watch how in control the camera guy was. Focus on the Green bike's windscreen instead of the guy in front and see what I mean. Nothing crazy...and I think the green bike's rider was able to easily make the turn even while singing 32 bottles of beer on the wall.. :-)

Well, no need for him to buy a lottery ticket. You can't get much luckier than that

What is weird is that he appeared to be leaning the entire way (until the very last second before impact).
He was leaning right, yet moving left. It looks so strange. Was he just going too fast? If given another chance, I wonder if he could have jumped into the bed of the pickup??

There is that target fixation phenomena that, when running out of road causes you to want to stand it up thinking your going to lose traction. He should have just looked away and hauled the bike back over. He wasn't turning much as he approached the edge of his lane
It's better to low side than run off the road at speed. I low sided at 70 mph at the apex of turn during a race and my butt didn't even slide as far as the outside it the turn Having said that, he would not have low sided. He would have made it. Never having been near that point he had no trust in his machine and tires. It should have been a non event like the camera guy I hate to see novices without the proper training. This would make a great training video

Now in 993 land ...

Slowing down to the level of proficiency really helps. You may still fall but not at highway speeds into a full road.
The guy is very lucky to be alive. Often on interstates it isn't the initial fall that kills the rider, rather than the next vehicle coming down the road running them over. G |
