747 Crash in Afghanistan

Didn't see a thread on this.

It appears to pretty much stop in mid air. Too steep of a climb? Cargo shift?

Video footage 'emerges' of 747 crash in Afghanistan - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

What was the pilot trying to do?

Thing was probably hauling some heavy vehicles- straps broke, things cascaded rearward on takeoff... with that large of a CG shift rearward of the pressure center, all you can do as a pilot is go full throttle stick forward and pray.

Some Taliban spokesperson is claiming they shot it down. Which is obviously false. The Taliban must not have Youtube.

How is it that the person(s) in the vehicle tapping the footage didn't make any sort of noise or say anything when it came down?

Still thrust but no lift. RIP, that's a bad deal.

RIP crew. Horrible situation to be in. The cargo probably shifted aft on rotation. No hope at that point.

It was surely outside of the perimeters of its flight envelope. RIP

I think he was LE. He had a dog onboard and hushed it when the dog became distressed. Probably military LE or civilian. If he's LE over there then he probably doesn't rattle easily.

As for the 747, that's how a fully developed nose-high stall looks in a big heavy airplane (or a small airplane for that matter). Terrible.

(15,000 hours in two and four-engine turbojet transports, military and civilian.)

Looks put together to me. Photoshopped especially the explosion. And lack of reaction on the ground. Anyone seen it on other news source? RIP and condolences to the families if true.

Cheers Richard

That's just sad and disgusting. RIP CREW.

Wonder if sabotage could be involved?

Looks very real to me. There's still a component of lift, there's just more weight than lift. Hence why it doesn't drop like a stone. The nose up attitude, almost full stop in the air, and the roll off towards the ground look totally realistic to me.

Too sad! just zero airspeed, no lift and down it went with seven men.

Would JTO packs cure this problem?

this, if not mechanical fault or pilot error, I was wondering about the load and the weight and balance/ trim.
