The Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Magnum from the movie lives right in SoCaL and sits right next to an amazing little 67 911 with a Supertec 3.2.
The owner is a Pelican.

Super Soul: This radio station was named Kowalski, in honor of the last American hero to whom speed means freedom of the soul. The question is not when's he gonna stop, but who is gonna stop him.

all of the Challengers from the original movie were destroyed. NONE exist.
The movie was remade in the 90's. Ted Stephens from GA owns two of the three cars used in that film. I bought a set of 1970 NOS fenders for my Challenger from Ted and saw the cars and documentation in person.

Barry Newman must have studied for months to remember all his lines in that movie.

When Newman was at the shack in the desert, my wife came in and thought I was watching a porn flick. That blond had a killer body, I'd like to see what she looks like today. Great flick, loved it when it first came out.

Gilda Texter is the girl who is naked her whole time on the screen in Vanishing Point. Ironically, she is a costume designer.

****SPOILER ALERT****
Another piece of trivia: they used a 1967 Camaro full of explosives as a stand in for the Challenger in the Bulldozer scene.

Vanishing Point fits in with other good car movies from the late 60's to early to mid 70's like Gone in 60 seconds, Two-Lane Blacktop and Duel. All seemed to concentrate on the cars being integral characters to the story line. If you want to go further in that direction, Maximum Overdrive and Christine seemed to take that premise to the next level, giving the cars lives, wants and desires outside their owners control.

Two-Lane Blacktop is one of my favorite top ten movies. Always liked the look and feel of that film. Vanishing Point was good too. Lots of symbolism and societal commentary can be found if you look for it.

Ninja edit... wdfifteen got the blond's name while I was writing.

There is a black and white photo of the final scene being set up with the bulldozers floating around the interwebs. I'll see if I can find it.
