"Wild Caving" - Making memories with my kids

My son is up for any camping trip with the Boy Scouts and I go most of the time as well. I was excited my daughter was able to go with us "Wild Caving" last weekend at Alabaster Caverns in NW Oklahoma. After the caving, we went swimming at Boiling Springs State Park's pool. It was 100 degrees this weekend and we felt like we were melting most of the time but what a great way to spend the last weekend before school starts. Making memories can be tough sometimes. This was a great experience!

Alabaster caverns is pretty cool! They have a small cave you can camp in, has to be a groups of about 15 or smaller though. Very cool experience!

Good for you. Have him stick it out to Eagle. My son is an Eagle. 1st thing he put on his resume' under "Experience". I told him it wouldn't get him the job, but would probably get him an interview.

There was a Troop from Derby, KS camping there this weekend. His Troop rarely camps with fewer than 40-45 youth and adults. He recently made it to 1st Class and is running for Patrol Leader. To encourage him, we made his email address "Eagle2B" and regularly discuss the long-term benefits.

Family caving trips

When I was in high school and college, I was part of a group that went spelunking (crawling around in caves). On a number of trips, my dad and my sister went along as part of the group. The funny thing was that my dad would come out of a cave almost clean and the rest of us would look like we had been crawling thru the mud (we had!). At one point, we even did some cave mapping to extend info on the previously mapped parts. I always enjoyed those "family" caving trips!

I used to do a lot of caving in southern Missouri + Arkansas back in the mid 70's. I actually helped train new members of the St. Louis University Grotto club in spelunking + rappelling in 78.
My brother was a cave mapper and we spent many long hours in caves.
