I want to know your reaction to this "Smoking Tire" car review.

I want to know if my reaction is shared by others, or if I am being overly sensitive. I don't want to bias the viewer, so to read my reaction, sort the comments by "Newest First", instead of "Top Comments", posted as Harry Felmeth. If you agree, click the thumbs up, so it goes to the top, and the host reads and learns from it.

Matt is a good guy. Has a huge following. We used to host his videos on our channel. He's doing very well in terms of views -- and that's where the $$$ comes from.

If you think you can do better, you're certainly welcome to upload your own work.

I'm sure he's a great guy to be around and to have beers with, but I'm afraid the internets has opened the floodgates to anyone with a camera and a little bit of ambition that otherwise have no business whatsover being in this profession. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm (we're) spoiled by the presenters out there that make it look so easy and effortless with their presenting style AND (more importantly) the automotive knowledge in their possession (Clarkson/Hammond/May/Leno for example).

Once I saw Matt's presentation on the Ferrari- *cough cough*- I mean Datsun "GTO", I realized I'd rather be watching the standard "very attractive young woman personality working her way up in communications and will eventually become a weather girl for some west coast news segment" presenter than some sloppy burly dude with the equivalent automotive knowledge and charisma. How in the world could he (or anyone on his crew) be in that business and not know that the car was a rebodied Datsun? His aggressive defense of his ignorance followed by his tail between the legs back peddling makes for good reading.

https://forums.finalgear.com/the-smoking-tire-episode-discussion/ford-gt-vs-ferrari-250-gto-44210/

If he's making the $$$ and has a great following, I can't fault him for that. But a spade is a spade. He's the Guy Fieri of the automotive world. I'm sure he's ok with that.

agree with comments you posted. liked the kid though, he truly enjoys the car and knows a lot about it.

that guy, nice though I'm sure he may be, is no more a car show host than any of us. he ads nothing to the interview and starts off with not even knowing how to undo the parking break. he tries to bring some cred back with a delorean reference (and fails).

we all want to be jay leno when it comes to cars. 99.9999999999% of us just aren't. this guy included.

honestly I'm not sure why this video would be considered serious enough to warrant a helping hand.

classic response from the FLD/jalop/drive types.

"oh you couldn't do better" like that means anything at all. FLD/jalop/drive is the "C" lunch period in junior high school automotive journalism. bleh.

the death of any good youtube channel is content for the sake of content. these "one takes" are just another symptom of that problem. maybe ferrah was tolerable when he was edited well, but these videos just are junk, pure and simple. im even losing my fandom of RCR over there declining quality of content, and there further putting junk content out there besides there weekly show. content for the sake of content is death of every good youtube channel.

petrolicous has been good still, xcar, chris harris and roadkill. pretty much sums up my car related pages i still enjoy.

Actually the Owner said several things that were incorrect....I had a 91 6 spd car back in 92. with a chip and cat delete I was able to run with my roommates 92 Automatic car..Put over 100K miles on that car....traded it in on a 84 Carrera and haven't thought about that Vette since...

why do you care if anyone clicks some stupid thumbs icon?

I don't play youtube games and I'm not sure I care for your tone with this.

who are you really? what is your agenda with this?

Fine, don't click anything. Just watch the video. I wanted to know if people agree with me, that's all. My agenda is obviously making Matt Farrah a wealthy internet tycoon, man.

I find that slob insufferable and I simply can't take his videos seriously.

techweenie pretty much nailed it. I'm biased because he lives near me and I see him out and about at bars and even in the neighborhood sometimes, and he's been nothing but a totally nice guy and likes to chat about anything car related with whoever.

I do agree with you that he is not very talented. He can be difficult to watch and sometimes, like this in this video, comes across as a douchebag who's ripping on someone's car. With that said, I'm sure he built some rapport with this kid before they made the video and this is just his "style" that unfortunately lacks tact and focuses on a lot of "car forum" cliches like you mentioned in your critique on YouTube.

If you don't like his videos, just move on...there's plenty of other content to consume. But if you ever get a chance to meet Matt in person and say what's up to him, you'll see that he's a cool car guy like the rest of us.

The fact that the OP just registered and his first and only posts so far have been in this thread has by Bullscheiße senses tingling.

Good advice. Anyone can post crap on youtube. If you have talent you get followers...there's no need to malign someone for getting off their ass and giving it a shot.

LOL

Yeah, I got sucked in. The OP is a 'sock puppet.' I used a crew of 14 sock puppets to promote a (crappy) DVD back in '06 when I was interested in developing the experience. The OP violated Sock Puppet Rule #1: don't promote your agenda in the first post.
