Tow Truck Operators - The Perfect Storm:

Within a 1,500 mile radius of Sturgis, thousands of urban wannabe bikers; all dressed alike trying to be different. Riding loud, cobbled up American made Tavern bikes; broke down and littering the the shoulders of the straight interstate highways in 100 degree heat……Enroute to worship in the Holy Land.

Nah, most of them trailer their bikes to within 10 miles, then triumphantly ride into town.

Sturgis is near the bottom on my 'to do' list.

The biggest gathering of poser wannabes on the planet, all of them (the following is a generalization) tattoo riddled, long hair, handlebar mustachiod, black leather wearing, overweight, aging hippies. It makes me laugh at these sheeple for wanting to be an original, but by all appearences, you can't tell one from another, and for some reason, they need to re-assure themselves that thier bike is running while waiting at a redlight by constantly revving their loud (life saving) pipes.

Actually, most of the Sturgis attendees I know are affluent middle aged professionals that go play biker for a week. They trailer to within a few miles of the show behind their Escalade, unload their $30k worth of pipes and chrome, then parade into town. Rebel without a cause!!!!

This.

I like motorcycles and have ridden a few Harleys but I just don't understand the appeal - they're big, heavy, kind of obnoxious, loud and pretentious (just like most of their owners, actually). They don't handle particularly well, aren't terribly fast or exciting and are a bit lacking in the brake department I find but to each their own.

No interest in Sturgis or "biker image". I'm working on a BMW R1200RT so I can take long camping trips on my own or with the kids (when they're a few years older). I don't care what I look like doing it, just doing it for the value of the experience. We'll get to go see lots of great stuff I'm sure.

I know some old school bikers who actually rode their oil leaking dilapidated harleys to Sturgis several times back in the day. None of these guys had any money, and the grease stains on their jeans were real.

Just recognize it as theatre rather than substance. A blue collar version of Mardi Gras.

That place is full of Fat Bob's and bobetts's...... haha. The place where the white collar crowd makes it the dirtiest trash pit of the USA.

Somewhat on topic. OK, so one has their stock dressed HD, the $500 sound system and it has that traditional exhaust note. But what the hell is it with these clowns replacing the stock exhaust with schitt sounding straight pipes?

I remember an old grizzled HD vet that used to drive to FL for the Daytona event. He used to split traffic between the motor homes with a sign on his bike...."Nice Trailer, Beeeyotch".....

Yawn.

I'd rather spend a weekend with Sturgis people than a bunch of uptight Polo-shirt, L.L. Bean pants know-it-all Amelia Island Concours lifers.

Sort of a coin flip between "HELL NO" and "NO THANK YOU."

No, wait. It's a coin flip between a fat chick and a fat chick with no arms. Yeah, that's it.
