The kids and I ran some errands today. When we pulled into the grocery store I notice a minivan with it's hood up and male staring at the engine. Got the kids out and told them to stay by our vehicle. As I was walking to the van I noticed out of state plates.
He thanked me but was in the middle of recharging the A/C. I wished the well and went about our business. In the back of my mind I was thinking about this thread. Inspiration by TABS....now that's a strange concept!!

I am in a cast right now because I am clumsy and broke my foot.
Pretty much everybody goes out of their way to open doors for me or try to help me with my crutches. In this crazy world where evil seems prevalent and nobody can seem to get along, the majority of people are in fact nice.

Of all of the crap that I have seen (and I am sure all of you) in this life, it can really get you down. But the older I get the one thing I admire more and more and more are kind people.

I was in a mini market last week behind 3 young kids from a near by housing project. They only had enough money between them for one soda. I asked them what would you like if you had the money. Milkshakes milkshakes yes indeed they left happy.

For years I stopped in a 7-11 for coffee on my way to work. Once, I was paying the clerk and he said, 'No charge, the guy ahead of you paid for yours.'
Made my day that little anonymous gesture did. I didn't kick not one dog for a whole week after that. The ice cream truck came down the street so I flagged him down and gave him 5 bucks and told him to give those neighbor kids whatever they want. I felt like Tabs for a few minutes. Awesome! |

There's a really nice African American guy that I sometimes see asking for handouts while wheeling himself through cars stopped for the light on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn. He lives in the men's shelter there. I always give him something, a few bucks, a 10 and even a 20. Thing is he has no legs, at all, up to the waist. I have made friends with him over the years. Nice goy bad break. He's the only guy I give to. It seems he genuinely needs the help. Good deeds, sometimes we need to do them.

Tonight I was waiting for a takeout order at a nice restaurant near where I'm working;
A couple in their '60s-'70s approached the door. I stood up from my chair and opened the restaurant door for them. The man said "thank you!" Thought about tabs, I did.

I think intuition has a lot to do with how we are kind.
Just a few weeks ago a woman came to our door (we live in the heart of a big city) asking for milk. I asked her a couple simple questions and when I knew she was on the level, I opened the garage door and gave her a bag that she not only put a carton of milk in it but I let her pick through our garage pantry and she got some other stuff. I don't care for the homeless hitting people up for money but I knew (she came to visit our worthless neighbors) and she wanted to eat. We have homeless going through our "put out" trash once a week and I hate to see it. If the homeless are not aggressive and just scraping up the scraps... I have to be helpful. We have a 39 gallon trash can that is completely full off crushed aluminum cans and the next time I see a man and a woman going down my street looking for recycles, I am going to give them a $30.00 dollar present. Screw the haircut or manicure... they can have the money for the aluminum cans. |
