Just as well. I am too old for social media.
You can add a phone number for additional security.

FB does set a cookie and you can tell it to notify you when accessed from a computer it has never seen before so your theory is possible.

One option is to report it as a fake account. Fakes are not allowed and there is a protocol in place to get them shut down.

You really should see about getting it killed so whatever asshat did this can't do something malicious with / to your reputation.

Worth a try, https://www.facebook.com/help/174210519303259

I tried. They told me no. Unfortunately it is not a fake account. They don't claim to be me. They only used my email to open the account (probably by mistake/typo). I can block the emails, but that is all. I suspect they have the same name. The picture is of a child. A preteen of the same sex but a different race. I don't know if they no longer use the account or are locked out themselves.

Send them a certified letter from a registered attorney to permanently delete all information stored.
"Fines of up to and including $xX if conditions are not fulfilled within 30 days."
And then quit Faceplant.

After a decade of screwing their customers on every security issue, why trust that website?

None of the info is mine. I can't make them delete it.

I can't quit....I never joined.

Ahhh, I was under the impression that they set up a fake "you" account.

Just gets better and better by the day.

Ashley Madison CEO Noel Biderman's emails reveal he lied and had multiple affairs | Daily Mail Online

Quote:

Ashley Madison founder's emails reveal he had multiple affairs despite his claims he never cheated on his wife

Emails linked to Noel Biderman were exposed during second data dump
Email chains seemed to show attempted affairs with at least three women
Detailed relationship he had with Toronto student that involved payments
Had emails from woman he 'fantasized' about and others showing he tried to meet with woman whose number matched escort review site account
Father-of-two formed site with wife Amanda and he denied affairs in past

I guess it figures, really.

Thanks, but cannot...as it would disclose my real name...which I stated earlier was in the email address. I don't use my real name on the Internet...even to buy/order things.

Oh, come on, how hard was it to guess your first name is "Fred" and your wife's name is "Wilma!"

Analysis of the AM dump reveals that there are very few female members and the the majority of the female members came from AM's own IP address.

A scam you say?... Shocking....not

I read on another forum a post from a guy who claimed he found his wife signed up with AM... But since his user name was Hugh G Rection, I'm not sure how seriously to take it.

Interesting update from our state Police Facebook page.

"South Australians are being targeted by a new wave of scammers, prompting a warning today from police.
Over the last week SA Police have received more than a dozen reports of a blackmail spam email which threatens to further expose customers of adultery website Ashley Madison.
The international website was hacked in August with users names and personal information stolen.
An email is now circulating demanding payment from the recipient in an online currency (Bitcoin) and threatening to expose their involvement with the website.
"The email is being sent to a wide range of people – whether they were registered with the website or not," says Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Blundell, from the SA Police Electronic Crime Branch.
"We've had more than a dozen reports in the last week and believe it's just the tip of the iceberg as many more people will have simply deleted the email without advising police."

You guys are awesome. Two things I regret in life - I never pursued computer programming beyond some basic FORTRAN and I didn't continue my Flugelhorn lessons.

Former job, the co was facing a class action lawsuit that would have cost potentially millions. We kept all logs, captures, etc. forever (literally). It was no problem "mining" the VPN logs (intensive mode capture) for several thousand daily users going back two years, and showing exactly what sites the claimant visited (cross mapped with other security type (firewall, etc.) logs. The legal dept. loved me....made it a slam dunk and royally pissed off "Jackie Childs" too

....but no, it's not even remotely feasible to capture "what you typed" on anything but predetermined very small scale.

ps: I had to use "big iron" (mainframe power) to crunch the data though....SQL on a server would still be running
