Drove my neighbors Tesla last night
Model S insanely fast. Instant torque whenever you hit the accelerator no matter what rpm. The torque is so strong it feels like a turbo that's always on boost. Its the first factory car I drove that I think would beat my turbo 3.2. Its really hard to tell from driving because they are both so different, but I can say that from a dead stop the Porsche wouldn't stand a chance. My sweet spot is 3rd gear around 3400 rpm turbo spooled up, but the Tesla seemed to pull just as hard. No running rich or lean, or running awesome one day and like crap the next, no clunky gears to shift. (just a singe gear thats it) just smooth, quiet, brutal acceleration 100% of the time. I'm really curious to see which would win from a third gear freeway run. I dont see how an internal combustion engine can compete with this and I see no advantage. For the first time my highly modded Turbo felt extremely antiquated. The Porsche still looks cool though.

I drove a P85 earlier this year. Crazy fast, instant torque, sci-fi interior. Really weird moving that fast with only a slight whir. Overall a very cool car that's just not a good fit for my needs.

Even my not so aero-sleek non-turbo Cayenne will out accel a Tesla above freeway speeds. The Tesla has no gearbox (yet, anyway) and the motor torque curve falls off pretty quickly around 70mph. Most Porsches have significantly higher top speeds, than the Tesla. ...But yes, the Tesla's are stupid quick, for a few launches off the line. On the track they over heat quickly. ...go unto limp mode.

Nobody "needs" a Tesla--or P-car for that matter!!

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I didnt take the Tesla past 80 due to road conditions, so from 30 to 80 it pulled like my car, so I really didnt get a chance to see if it flattened out, but the mighty turbo never stops pulling. ![]()

that acceleration is like a drug in those electric cars. I had a chance to drive the little two seater (the one that looks like a Lotus) and slammed on the gas (well electric pedal, I suppose?). That instance torque was additive. too much fun and very fast.

Yes, it's that near-hundred thousand dollar price tag that doesn't fit me well! Otherwise a fantastic car.

i would love a Tesla, but the price and the range don't fit my lifestyle. My trips tend to be <30 miles or >500 miles.

Every review I have read raves about the car. No doubt is is a nice car. It should be for that much money. I will stick to my paid for gasoline powered antiques.

Sit in one. The interior finish/trim looks and feels cheap. Something that belongs in a 35-40k car.
