There were tons of scooters around when I lived in Chicago, and I had no problem with them. Here in rural KY, they're getting on my nerves. Setting aside why someone would bother with one outside of a congested urban area, my issue is the riders are slow. Not the scooters - modern scooters are more than able to keep up with traffic, even at highway speeds. But here, where the typical road speed is 45mph, I find myself having to go around someone on a scooter doing 30 or so.

In Michigan mopeds are legal under 30mph, less than 50 cc. Over that, it's a motorcycle. I got run off the road illegally by a truck pulling a trailer once. Road rules are the same for moped, bicycle, motorcycle and cars. I followed the guy to his house which was less than a mile away and informed him of that fact in addition to reminding him that I and my moped have exactly the same rights to the road as he and his truck do. I told him no need to apologize.
Annoying? Yes. |

However those little wheels scare me... can't imagine going over railroad tracks with those... if I was in the market for a small putt-putt for around town think I would be more interested in a small enduro in the 125-250 range... but to each their own. I see guys buzzing to work on their full size scooters (one I looked up has a 400cc motor). There is a huge ruckus crowd here is SoCal, I see 'gangs' of the zooming around. And yeah... the pink ranger is hawt. ![]()

Your ruckus(s) [what is the plural of ruckus?] look like great his and her fun, but because of what happened to my friend I would be worried sick if my wife was buzzing around town on one. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks, Scotty. No worries on the sale. I'll gladly keep both Rucki. If you notice the closer bike has aftermarket risers on the seat frame. My significant other has really long legs. However, since she had hip surgery, she can't ride anymore.
Buzzing around town scares me less than highway. Lotsa people get really irritated when stuck behind a scoot. Understandable. Michigan law requires one to ride as close to the right edge of the road as possible. |

Beautiful bike, Steve. That one is stretched, lowered, has a fatty tire, highly upgraded brakes, shocks, unrestricted exhaust, etc. 'Slammed' is what it's called in the Ruckus world. 5-6k into it, easily. Cannot be licensed legally (in MI) as a moped due to the dimensions (ht, length). The strut down the center, between the rider's legs, is needed due to the stress after being stretched. Looks like a stock engine' though. Has a cupholder, too! Very nice.
