Starting to come together now, waiting for new valve covers, got a new Qjet carb,
wont be too long now. Get the old engine out, overhaul tranny.

Can I ask why you decided to go with a Q-jet? Fuel mileage?

I always liked the look of the Qjet and mileage IS great. Also everyone else has holley or edelbrock, bad enough we all have SBC 350's, so I'll be a little different.

The block doesn't look too great right now, (my camera makes the orange look weird) but with all the ancillaries on board it should liven up a bit.

Actually it should look just like the old engine with newer shinier bits.

Hi, you have a very good looking old Chevy....Rare indeed. Due to all the wood in them was the reason that there are so very few of around; Bugs eating the wood, rotting and or due to an accident. To replace any of the wood was able to be replaced in that era as the tradesmen back then that could do it......With your new Chevy SB it just may make your machine creak a little:) ...A 454 -> Kindling :):)

Many years ago I had '34 2 door sedan which was dark blue with black fenders. The car was in very good condition. The fellow was killed in the war and it had been parked at their farm since..It had been hit on the left fender that included the 'A' pillar (wood wrapped with metal)

I had a good joinery shop make the piece of wood for the 'A' pillar which they were spot on with. All in all it cost a bit to fix it but I did get it at a good price due to the damage.

The nice thing about the car was that the paint and the interior were still in excellent condition....

History 101 on Old Fords and Chevy's:
The reason that all of the Fords were Hot Rodded was due to Henry's vehicles being an all steal car. You have one great machine!...Just watch out for pieces of flying splinters if you unfortunately happen crash it ...:):)

Bonnie & Clyde " loved" there '34 Ford for two reasons.

1. They easily went much faster than the Chevy's in-line six's Like very easy!

2. Henry's V8's had a proper oil pump whereas GM used only a splash system. Hence, when held the to the pedal for too long, they either seized up and or had a rod or two go through the block... BTW, GM used those 216 cu.inch splash system motors right up until 1954!... In '54 they had a 235.cu.inch as the standard engine and of course in '55 it all happened- A completely new small block 265 cu.inch V8!!

Also new front bumper made at this shop from scratch, also cleaned up the front grill and new blue bowtie. (I mention the bowtie because you can only change it when rad is all apart)

Engine kinda looks the same, which I wanted, but lots of new parts besides new engine. Rebuilt the rad too, and new carb, new intake. Same valve covers, and distributor. Runs nice. Be running it this weekend as break-in!

Got snow tires?

Is the Chevy bare metal? How do you keep it form just rusting away?

Here in PA everything rusts.

Hired a graduate from BYU who showed up driving his grandfather's 1960 F100. It had been sandblasted to bare metal in the desert. Fortunately we convinced him to paint it before winter.

This weekend, snow or not.

Not bare metal, mostly green primer, some original paint and some clear satin all over.

Seems to hang on pretty good, not getting any rustier.
