New crate engine
My old hot rod engine has been smokin' a bit and rattling a lot lately, so decided to buy, first time ever, a new GM crate 350 c.i. long block.
Had been thinking about rebuilding my old engine which runs great except for the above two problems. It has no history, not even real sure what it is other than a SBC 350. So took the easy way out with this new engine with warranty et al. Easy on the budget too. Will keep my old motor and probably re build it with a little more badass in mind for next Hot rod. Wont get the new crate for 4 or 5 days so might be a while before getting it installed, see how it goes. Here's a pic or two of the old motor, so hope I can make the new one look as good. Thanks for looking.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442024097.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442024149.jpg |
WOW, A CHEVY 350!!!
Serously, where is the pic of the hot rod? What kind of crate motor did you get? Just a base "Goodwrench" with 128 horsepower? ;) There is some bad ass crate motor stuff for sale, ready to go. I'd be very tempted! At least step it up to a 383 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hpe-hp94 G |
+1 for the 383.

weird, it's awfully clean for a smoker. Normally you get all kinds of crap around the breather due to blowby, leaks up the arse, etc. etc.
SBC isn't known for oiling problems either. They are one of the best oilers in the biz. rjp |
PS 383 is getting up there, ZZ4 (350) gets my vote, enough TQ to move that light hotrod or any post 86 block local build with roller bosses- so roller cam and built at local hotrod shop by someone reputable, since it's not a DD I'd take my chances to save a few $$ and build it my way.

Put a flathead in her. ;)
. I put a ported, polished, & relieved (mild Isky cam) flat head in my '29 Ford Town Sedan a hundred years ago. 3 Stom 97's in progressive linkage. That sweetie idled so smoothly I could have put a glass of champagne on her. Not as pretty as this one, however. . http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442034440.jpg |
More pics please. That looks like a cool car!

so the basic 350 for now. This is a Chevy BTW, so that's the reason for the 350. Well see how it goes, maybe I'll build up the existing 350 at a later date.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442069473.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442069665.jpg |

I walked down to the coffee/grocery shop one morning and found this parked out front: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442069745.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442069793.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442069826.jpg |
Motor arrived today, long block, so only need to bolt on a few things. Shouldn't be too much downtime with this one. Might look into a new intake and carb (or carbs)since it doesn't come with that, and would leave my old motor intact. Not a very exciting picture, although I'm looking forward to getting started on it.

That's a cool DD. Heh.
Should do a 327 4sp with a solid lift- wind the piss out of it. |
PS I picked up a replacement GM L05 crate engine for $1.7K awhile back.
It's excellent quality- fired up on first turn, and been flawless since. I'd do it again if I needed a DD engine. rjp |

Uncrated and getting ready for paint
Also waiting on a new alum intake and a new quadrajet carb. Lotsa fun.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442861246.jpg

What are you scooping? Kool Aid powder?
|
It's Nk21. Which is a fertilizer mix of Potassium and nitrate. I think it's mixed like it is to lessen the use of ammonium nitrate which in the wrong hands can be nasty stuff.
|
Yeahhhhhhh don't mix with diesel ^^
|
Having worked on enough Porsches, including a 911 engine rebuild, $2400 seems like a great deal!

Sort of off topic, but
I tried to buy this El Camino over 40 yrs ago,(I was just a child) but the owner,
although quite nice just wouldn't sell. On the cusp of a major restoration, he said. Tried two or three more times but he would never budge. The car hasn't moved from that very spot in at least 50 years. I could've made a nice cruiser with that car. Too late now, for me at least.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1443126923.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1443126987.jpg |
