Cool Japanese Sports Cars of our Youth..

Many here lusted after some of these, before we could afford our beloved German Steeds.

OK, most of us didn't drool over this, but still cool.

Youth... before I was born... whichever. Cool cars though! I'm thinking more Skyline / Supra / 300Z / 3000GT though

I've always wanted an MR2.
Thought they looked jolly good...and they handled well.
I've always like small cars.

Air Force buddy bought a new '66 Datsun Fairlady...front wheel base was several inches wider than the rear.

I'm having flashbacks.

Some of you may recognize a trend here...

(car # 1 is my first car in high school. Its a 1974. In hindsight, I guess car #3 is the one that I have been trying to build all of my life. Its a 1973)

#1 1974 (finished in 1979, build time, 3 months)

#2 1976 (finished in 1985, build time, 6 months)

#3 1973 (finished in 2013, build time, 24 months)

That's good stuff. I am one generation younger, my first car was an '87 Nissan 200SX, back when they were still RWD. Second car was a '93 Nissan 240SX. I desperately wanted a Prelude SH when they came out, and also lusted over the FD RX7 and Z32 300ZX TT. I think the Japanese sports cars will have their day as collectibles, for kids of the '80s they were one of the few options for attainable fun.

I liked the 510 better than the 240z for some reason.

I plopped a 350 Chevy into a 240Z. Wicked fast.

I've had a first generation Z since 1986, it was the 911 I could afford but they're starting to come into their own circle for appreciation in styling, performance and value.

The only place a Big Ass looks good is the back of a 911

Ahh...cool thread (except for that ugly black azz). Here's mine which I owned close to 30 years. Still have it...it's an '84 Toyota Celica Supra and still has original paint.

I remember back in the 80s, my buddy Floyd had a '73 Celica totally worked. Motor all blueprinted, sidedraft Webers. Suspension mods. Body flared out. Car was totally badass. I wanted that car soooo bad.

In my youth the Japanese made cheap radios. Then motorcycles. The first interesting Japanese car I ever saw was a Honda 600. By then i wasn't a youth any more.
