Dog poop pic, worms?

If you don't like the pic, you shouldn't have opened the thread.

Anyways, the mutts are on oral flea meds. Trifexis that controls, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm. On the walk, the female did her business and the pic is the result. Sure looks like worms to me. The male has no issue.

No rice or any other food that would contribute to the "filler".

If you are old enough you will remember the Cheech and Chong routine on this subject.

Turd deleted, just for girlyman Glen, %^)

Figured.....so why does one have to have the vet analyze the poop to determine what worm it is when the treatment is the same for all.

The treatment isn't the same for all worms. Many, but not all.

Fenbendazole is available at the pet store and works against a bunch of different types of common dog worms. That's what you'll see on the shelves at the pet store as an "8 in 1" dewormer.

It is not effective against Dipylidium tapeworms (which unfortunately is a common one in dogs):

Evaluation of granulated fenbendazole as a treatment for helminth infections in dogs. - PubMed - NCBI

Dipylidium tapeworms are treated with praziquantel, which unfortunately is only available with a prescription.

You can start with Fenbendazole, it is benign, harmless stuff to dogs but killer to the worms that it works against, and not expensive.

Almost all (or all) dogs carry worms to some extent, from what I understand, so Fenbendazole every now and then, maybe every 6 months to a year, isn't a bad idea.

Dog I just got had every sort of worm they can get, except heartworm. Vet was amazed at how bad he had them.

As long as there is no dog crap left laying around in the yard and he is not eating crap when you walk him, semi annual deworming is probably overkill

It looks like tape work segments to me. Easy fix with one treatment. If you don't treat it soon, you could have an explosion of them on his dog bed. That's not a pretty sight.

I doo poop dooty every day and this the first appearance. The brother hasn't had a showing but I assume he has it too. I will call the vet in the AM.

What irks me is that I paid a premium for the Flea, Tick and Worm meds and what do I have to show for it? Worms and the ire of PP weenies and a one star rating.

edit: thanks for the info.

Yep, the med's have worked well. The sad thing is the worms get fed first when the cat or dog eats, and they can end up starving if the worms arn't killed off. Good work.

When my cat was a wild cat he was in pretty bad shape. The vet said if I can touch him to mix a worming pill with vegemite (Kiwi cat ) and stick it to his fur. He will lick it off. Ha, the next day his appetite had halved and his health started to improve.

It can actually kill the dog. Vet said mine would have died if he had gone untreated another month, wanted to give him a blood transfusion. Dewormed him and started giving him iron supplements instead, he already has a better looking coat and his gums are not nearly as pale.

I bet it's just an early case of tape worms. My dog get's them every time he eats a rabbit. I keep the pills in the cabinet. No big deal, just get the pills and treat him.

I will be happy when this thread drops down off of the first page. Using Tapatalk it automatically displays the first couple of photos in the preview of the post. I am tired of seeing that turd.

Had a litter of kittens back around 1997. They all got worms.

Best de-wormer I ever saw was Dave's Insanity Sauce. Somehow or another, some of them had developed a taste for it... or just didn't care, they wanted whatever food it was on.

Anyways, I've never seen worms attempting to...escape...so quickly in my life. Nope, it didn't kill them, but it sure made them shoot out of little kitty buttholes just as fast as they could get away.
