Brando,

Have yet to see a car with scored cylinders that has any misfires logged in it. More than likely plugs/coils are the issue. You should be able to see which cylinders are showing the misfires with a scan tool.

Like Matt said, I still think this issue is still vary rare in the big picture of things.

Cheers

Yep - cyls 1, 2, and 5. As stated earlier I have a set of the updated/replacement coils and new plugs. After those are done I'll see about pulling the injectors and sending them for cleaning.

It's just a bit of a let-down hearing of scored cylinders. Feels like playing the lottery with a 3.4. Like I said - so long as the car makes it another 2 years i'm fine.

Then I can either do a v8 swap or send it out for a 3.8 upgrade with some goodies. I dunno. Or sell it and buy a turbo S.

Addition: I guess he closest this relates to is having an SC with original head studs. Or a CIS car without the flapper valve in the airbox.

Or a 964 with leaking heads. Or an early car without Carrera oil fed tensioners. Or a 2.7 with thermal reactors. Or basically every classic 911 with head studs that would pull, break, or both. Or a classic 911 with over 100k that hasn't had a top end done yet. Or a 993 with an original distributor belt. Or CIS issues that nobody can sort. The only reason why the air-cooled cars are referred to today as "bulletproof" is that they've all already been broken and repaired by this point.

This ^^^^^^

For every M96/M97 with a scored cylinder there is 1000's without. For comparison on longevity of other parts. We recently had a 150K mile 996 3.4 apart for timing chain. Had the heads checked to see if they needed guides or valves. All 24 valves and guides in spec...

Cheers
