Charleston Hates Us
My wife and I have been Charleston S.C. exactly twice. Both for business.
When we were here last January there was record cold. Water pipes on the roof froze and we huddled in the hotel (Vendue - great place) watching the water cascade down in sheets in front of the entrance. This time we arrived on the heels of a hurricane with record flooding. I-95 was closed, I-26 was down to one lane in areas - traffic snarled everywhere and some really bad driving going on. We're in a packed hotel huddled with people who have been flooded out of their homes or who are trying to get out of town but can't, watching the rain come down in sheets. To make it worse, the hotel restaurant and bar were closed last night. If you wanted food you had to drive in waves of driving rain to get to a restaurant. We've vowed never to come to Charleston again, and I think that's OK with Charleston. On a brighter note - it's not raining this morning and only a few streets are still flooded.

Normally it's a great place, but I'm biased.
In all seriousness, try March or April. That's the best time of year.

Sounds like you should post future travel plans here, so all pelicans can plan to be elsewhere. To avoid your bad weather karma. Just joking.
Hope the rest of your stay goes better. Cheers Richard |

That sucks--Charleston really is a lovely place--give it one more go before cutting it loose as a destination.

I've noticed that too. I think the other end of I-26 is over there somewhere and somehow they all just drive until they hit the beach. I've never been to Ohio but it seems like they're all running from something over there.
