Small town livin' is good.

I've been putsing with a customers 65 gto this week. Tri power 389, and it is running really bad. I moved it around about 15 times throughout the week without driving it, and the plugs were fouled, and it was all loaded up from all the cold starts on choke without ever being driven to clean out the pipes.
I come in this am, and needed to take a good test drive. ( I also added power brakes , so I wanted to make sure they were working good ) .
It was spitting and sputtering, and barely running, so I lay into it really good to clear it out. 1st gear mmmmm 2nd gear, mmmmmm 3rd gear mmmmmmmmmm, oh ****, there is the local police pulling out of the diner heading the other direction.
I back off and drive back to the shop gingerly . 2 minutes later ,officer unnamed pulls in my parking lot. All he wants is to tell me that the car sounded beautiful going through the gears, and he would love to go for a ride in it when I am done.

Dad used to have a '72 XKE. I was driving it one time and got pulled over by a CHP motorcycle. I was 17 and sort of panicking, what did I do? Nothing, he just wanted a closer look at the car, asked if he could have a look at the engine, SOHC V-12, wow, it has air conditioning, wanted to know how hard it was to keep the spokes clean on the wheels, shot the breeze about 15 minutes. He wanted to go for a ride too, but he could not leave his bike on the side of the road. I told him to call up my father and ask him when he had a day off. Don't know if he ever did. Dad sure did seem to know a lot of cops though, so I bet he probably did.

Way to go Fred.Gee the only thing I got from a police officer when I lived in a small town was a speeding ticket at 6 in the morning going to work in my '73 Beetle.

Good story FastFred!

Every once in a while we get to put one in the WIN column.

(Italian tuneup on a GTO - that seems appropriate, somehow!)

I had a local LEO comment on how cool my 911 sounded (that's what attracted his attention) when I was on a Sunday morning twisty road romp some years back....as he handed me the ticket

A big win for Fred

Cop was cool though....he also told me how to "get out of it"....just doing his job.

Dad has that exact car years ago. In that maroon color just the same, '65 with Tri-power, except his was a hard top. Cool car.

Probably before many of yours time:

"Little GTO you're really looking fine,
Three deuces and a four-speed and a 389..."

By Ronnie and the Daytonas (semi 1 hit wonders) as I recall, a long time ago it were.

Love the convert GTO. One of my neighbors had a similar one in blue back in the '70s when they were cheap. Never cared for the later ones.

I moved to a very small rural area (not even a town) in the middle of nowhere, where you never saw a cop unless you called them. Then they hired a bunch of LEOs, bought a state-of the-art "mobile command center" and put a big neon sign out in front of the Sherriff's office. Radar traps everywhere. Then they had to ask for a big tax increase to pay for all of it.

Got my first ticket in many years going to work before 5am on an empty road for doing 62. Porsche tax? It was a freaking Cayenne (turbo minivan).
