I see plenty of Japanese remastered offers on the Back in Black CD. Are these "decent" for securing a better quality? I did see a Barry Diament CD for sale, I think it was a Yes album that specified unremastered. Assuming that means was from original source or very close to original source? JR, I am hooking up with my pal, close to New Years, that has maybe a $6,000 stereo to do the Back in Black assessment you suggest. I am wondering if 59 years of wear render even the Bose speakers too high quality for my ears. I still have to pick up a difference.

My ears are 56, limited to about 12k HZ, with some occasional problems at lower frequencies but I can still hear enough of it that it impresses. Great speakers and enough power, along with decent room acoustics, are key.

I don't think Diament is actually credited on that album, but he did master it to CD. Regarding remasters: There are plenty of exceptions, but as a general rule with CDs, I tend to stick with the original red-book releases and avoid most remasters. YMMV. |

However, my trusted shop sidekick who is well versed in ACDC, long time from day one, said "I like this one" when Have a Drink on Me was playing and I asked do you like this or Shake a Leg better. There is nothing like years of exposure for clarity. Asked him which song is best. Back in Black. Then we listened to the High Voltage album. He knew the farkin' lyrics. Plus, an outstanding air guitar performance post some Bad Elf Winter's Ale. Merry Christmas.

I was playing Have a Drink on Me today with my Les Paul with new Wolfetone pickups and through my 100w Marshall Plexi. Tone of the gods.

Listening to ACDC across time. This one works.
Is this Bon Scott or Brian Johnson? ![]()

I have no idea why I typed Brian Wilson rather than Brian Johnson. I had just watched a video interview someone had posted here in OT with respect to Johnson.
I do like that song.

"The Wrecking Crew" (sometimes called "the Clique" and "the First Call Gang") was a loose-knit circle of Los Angeles' top studio session musicians whose services were constantly in demand during their heyday in the 1960s and early 1970s. In varying configurations, often anonymously, they backed dozens of popular acts on numerous top-selling hits of the era. They are considered one of the most successful session recording units in music history. The group's ranks began to materialize in the late 1950s, but in the early 1960s they fully coalesced into what became their most recognizable form when they became the de facto house band for Phil Spector, sometimes credited as the Phil Spector Wall of Sound Orchestra, playing on many of the hits that he produced at the time, and contributing to the development of his Wall of Sound production methods. After the initial success of Spector's records, they became the most requested session musicians in Los Angeles, playing behind many popular recording artists such as Jan & Dean, Sonny & Cher, Barry McGuire, the Mamas & the Papas, Frank Sinatra, and Nancy Sinatra. They were sometimes used as "ghost players" on recordings credited to rock groups, such as the first two albums by the Monkees, the Byrds' cover version of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" (1965), and the Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds (1966).
